Well I screwed that up!

If you were wondering why the DMX tester video went a bit weird at the end it's because I accidentally got out of sync with the pause button and recorded the bits that weren't supposed to get recorded and failed to record the other bits.

Oh well.  I'll remake that video in the faster and more streamlined second-go version that doesn't discover how useless hot melt glue is for fine-detail potting.

The video did capture what goes on between sections when I ponder what I'm going to say.  It would have made more sense if you'd seen the missing bits.  That includes the use of the wooden stirrer knobbled from Conrods.  (A coffee shop run by TT legend Connor Cummins.)

On a plus note I didn't say anything terribly embarrassing.

It's also notable that I reviewed a good chunk of that video before releasing it to you guys, but stopped short of the weird bit.

Little do we know - maybe he does them all (except the facing camera ones!) in his birthday suit!!!

I though about that but I don't think my gun gets hot enough. It was originally used for shrink wrapping things, I mostly use it for shrink tubing now. It's basically a high powered hair dryer.

Thanks for not deleting the video! It's great to see behind the curtain once in a while and to hear you rehearsing even after 1500 videos. Would like to start making my own videos one day and something like this makes it that much less intimidating. You should hide a link to this video in the description of an upcoming one as an Easter egg to those who bother to read video descriptions.

Berkeloid

The video is still up if you can get the YouTube link from the Patreon e-mail.

Berkeloid

The video is still up though (thankfully), I found the direct link in the e-mail that Patreon sent me!

Berkeloid

You may have heard the hot air pen being used in the video to try and reflow it, but I was concerned about damaging the plastic surround and LEDs.

Big Clive

We should call it "beyond the bench"

Glad to see it’s not just me who gets bored reviewing videos , I edit I’m premiere 10-30 min engineering videos and in the end I get sick of them and hearing mine and my mates voice

I stand by my previous comment, it was a great video, just needed a quick tidy up before your release. However as someone quite rightly pointed out you're the boss! 😃

Watched the video last night and then, sadly, dozed off sometime in the middle. Woke up a bit confused right at the end - now I know why ... I also vote for bringing it back as a "Patreon Only" feature. Fully understand if you don't, though ...

I used a heat gun to "re-flow" to hot glue. https://imgur.com/a/t8ztgBP

Awww. I liked the other one! But, you're the boss. Thanks for being.

I mix the two part resin in disposable shot glasses.

Big Clive

I actually though that the shot glass that did show up on the brick was the real reason for the slight ooops moment and Sir Clive was pretty blitzed on the dark and storm`y.. lol

After making over 1500 videos it was about time I screwed up.

Big Clive

It worked for the bulk of the potting, but at the top of the connector it was too sticky to flow around the LEDs properly like resin does.

Big Clive

I watched late last night and wondered about it. I just thought you got mussed about the hot melt not working so well. Good laugh this morning.

Paul Malloy

Oh no, I hope it's still up - I'd love a Behind the Clive ...wait that doesn't sound right.

David K

Sir BigClive I've watched all your videos twice, not counting the ones I use for reference, that was the first time I can recall you out of sync. No worries. Congrats on the 555 subs.

I'd really like to find out why hot melt glue is useless for fine-detail potting, especially as I was considering trying it myself.

No worries, I didn't mind it a bit. It just shows you are just like the rest of us.

Charles Bruckner

To be honest I was kind of working on a project with that video in the background, so I didn't notice that stuff.

Michael Thompson

Aw it's a shame that you've removed it, I would liked to have watched it before and after the remake :) Have a great day Clive,... hello from Soho ☺

It was rather good and I thought that is what had happened ! - Sometimes to be proven human is all we have! :)

We all do it Clive. Who here can place hand and heart and say they haven't talked to a circuit or problem. Granted it is often expletives but your still talking to it :-D Clive, do I need to re-post my comments and question about the tester or can you copy it over? I only ask as I cant remember exactly what I said. I was going to make a comment about my bad memory but I forgot what it was ! ............ Just noticed your reply to my question about grounding. Having given the chance for the cogs in my brain to start turning thanks to some WD40 I can see why CMR would not protect the signal. Thanks Clive....

Dang I missed the DMX tester video. I got a 404 not found on Patreon and private on youtube.

Nuts 'n' Proud

Agrred, I would love to have seen it too!

Steve Brecht

I missed it, please keep the original as a patreon only video.

When you live alone you do tend to mumble random stuff. The perils of not just recording it, but then accidentally releasing it without reviewing it completely because it had been a long night.

Big Clive

Please keep this version. I know you won't. And I understand that for YouTube it would be better ( in other people's opinion, but not mine). But I quite like the ending.

Neil Tonks

It's all good Clive.. I watch all of it and like it.

Dane

We should all be Electricians. You are. Life is good.

For what it’s worth (nothing) I loved it. I was a bit concerned for your wellbeing at one point but apart from that, excellent!

Dude. Human. Just keep posting the goodie.
