Light with hidden feature.

I'm not sure why two of the cell positions were so firmly blocked off.  Is there some shipping rule for when something like this gets shipped with cells pre-loaded?  This one came empty.

It's quite a functional light - particularly with the increased capacity.  A full charge of good cells could keep you in light and power for a long weekend trip.

I bought one of these, and now I've taken out the extra 2 cell blanking plate, opened it up to remove the solder blobs and stuck the charge indicator label on the right way up it's pretty good. With 4 Samsung 3400 Ah cells it's been sat here on the brightest setting for 4 hours and only lost 1 blob of battery charge. IMprressive

They're all in parallel, so it's not really an issue. They'll just form one big battery.

I added a search link in the video description.

Big Clive

Possibly, but it actually draws the most current.

Big Clive

He makes it look so easy. I really should pop one of them off. If I do I'll do it on video with at least 10 microPauls of flux.

@ 6:28 mark: Is that jizz or the worlds most sorry ass thermal paste application job?

Cheers for that! I Already ordered one.

How cool is that 4-cell option? With the thing simply being paralleled you could run it as a one cell also. That is some versatility right there, and possibly a good reasont o modify the unit to take advantage of this and maybe have an optional higher current output for running or charging beefier things. As mentioned, 1 amp is okay, although 2 amps or more is creeping in fast it seems. Yeah, a really neat deice indeed! I'd get one but dammit man the clutter.

Tried looking for this on ebay but there quite a few identical looking ones but different power - 5W, 20W, 30W etc, zoomable and un-zoomable. Have you any more details to identify it?

John Carr

May be kinda relevant but I know when flying through china you can't take a battery pack with more than 10,000mAh capacity. There might be some kind of regulation on the max capacity of the parcel which made them block that off "to be safe"

I wonder if the 2 cells is to mitigate the risk of 4 badly matched cells and lack of BMS?

The Tinkering Shed

Great video. Could we have a link of where to buy, keywords etc?

The world has gone mad i tell you... Airlines in particular . I cant even send a mobile for repair via the post. let alone order a light from overseas that contains batteries. Pity they arent as strict with their maintenance protocols and pilot competance review eh! Rant over

Phil Maddox

I wonder if the diffuse is for use as a tent light?

Clive, ever consider desoldering one of those ubiquitous 8-pin chips to see if there's an identifying mark on its belly using that hot air station? (Spoiler, of the less-than-ten I've desoldered, not once have I seen markings of any kind.) Just watch a few Louis Rossmann videos, apply a healthy amount of flux, and desoldering and resoldering should be a piece of cake (at least that's how it appears on YouTube.)
