Wall light with interesting internal design.

When I got this I was expecting it to just have a 1W or 3W LED firing into the side of the plastic.

But it turns out it's really quite cleverly designed inside to give all round illumination while also facilitating easy manufacture.

The series parallel LED system is particularly neat since it is optimised for the fixed current power supplies with a wide voltage range.

You could add a resistor in each unit and run a 12V DC supply to them all.

so... if you removed all the high voltage power supplies from a bunch of units, and wired a series of these sconces of the same type, and then ran them all off of ONE power supply...

This looks neat but having 230v in that little box is ropey, imagine it with a loop in and out, all sorts of dodgy pudding joints are going to happen there! I think the future of domestic lighting should shift to DC, probably 24v. Not only will it be infinitely safer but it would allow all sorts of solar and wind capture options without expensive inverters, plus mains backup systems would be cheap and reliable.

I've got a collection of android phones here, thanks. I should repurpose one as my sacrificial phone for dodgy apps.

I'd be tempted to paint the back of the plate white, to reflect more of the light back into the plastic.

I really will buy you a cheap phone that you can load dodgy apps on. I bought a NUU phone which in theory won't even work as a phone here in 'The States'. I absolutely love the thing. Primarily used as an MP3 player, way cheaper than a new ipod. I use it with cheap $20 dash cans, $15 wi-fi cams and heaps more. The Ruideng app is actually useful.

When you said "meter on", I thought of the former French President. I really do wonder how my mind works sometimes.
