Logo as PCB tracks.

This is an attempt to adapt the channel logo to a PCB compatible format by replicating it as tracks.  It looks a bit weird when you can see all the nodes and arc centre points.

Logo as PCB tracks.

Comments

Will gladly buy 2...very cool..

Vaughn B.

They've all asked to sponsor PCBs but I've tended to just buy PCBs independently to see the quality supplied to non-sponsored people.

Big Clive

This would be a silk screen on the non-track side.

Big Clive

Clive, you stated that this will be a single sided board, with smd s or (surface mounted stuff) mounted on opposite side. So is this design intended to be part of the tracings or just an image that you could silk screen? Or am I confusing smd with surface mounted stuff?

So should we expect a "Sponsored by PCBWay" or "Brought to you by JLCPCB" video from you too?

fill the glasses with no solder mask, would look real good with ENIG but tin or hals would work as well. I know Clive makes a lot of his own boards. edit: I give up trying to fight auto correct on the hot air surface level abbreviation.

Zach Allin

There will be LEDs involved.

Big Clive

Is it going to do anything? Light up? or just a sort of art on pcb?

I used to make PCBs until I discovered prototype PCB sellers ao I get those now. I'm not that adventurous any more and I get nagged for hogging the kitchen sink rinsing the boards.

indeed, i would buy one! AvE has done with the rulers, i’m not sure how “worth it” it was for him but i’d like a keychain sized clive. Also, maybe try eagle, i think for smaller sizes it’s still free and from what i remember it’s a lot easier to make shapes.

Michael Gilchrest

I think this would make a great keyring if the PCB was cut out to match the shape.

Matt Tester

It does look good. I used to get quite stylish on my fairground PCBs.

Big Clive

If I go ahead with this little project it will be a very small batch.

Big Clive

Nice idea, but this is going to be a single sided board with this logo on top. The surface mount stuff is all going to be on the other side.

Big Clive

I have seen some PCB boards with Pink substrate. :)

Lostngone

I wonder if Clive will sell those PCBs in his shop?

Nuts 'n' Proud

Don't know what PCB program you use but I would convert the image outline to svg using <a href="https://www.vectorizer.io/images/upload.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.vectorizer.io/images/upload.html</a> and then look to see if it can be imported as svg

When I started working on industrial stuff i was blown away by a PCB that was not only beautifully laid out, but it actually featured huge Egyptian-looking hieroglyphics and detail that you just don't see these days. Just amazing at the time. So yeah...do it! AWESOME!

Michael Thompson

I had a vision based on the subject line of a Big Clive logo small enough to use SMT capacitors as the glasses lenses!

Loscha

It has to be in a format that the PCB design package can deal with, which is based on tracks and pads. The curves are sections of track circles as a series of segments.

Big Clive

Seems it would be a snap if you're familiar with vector objects in Photoshop or Illustrator. Vectors, as you likely know, are mathematical lines/curves. They're straight/smooth and mathematically/perfectly scalable to any size, unlike bitmaps, which can be jagged and lossy. When I make logos or reusable/scalable graphics, I always try to use vectors to define them precisely. I can then perfectly resize a copy of the vector and export as a bitmap, if necessary. Your logo is all simple bezier curves and lines in fairly simple shapes. It'd be easy to construct in vectors and you wouldn't have to worry about dicking around with individual pixels and smoothing out JPG compression artifacts or whatnot.

Loaded a background bitmap and then formed the track image over it, track by track. It took a while.

Big Clive

Did you freehand draw that in your CAD package or write/script it?

WizardTim

That's a very interesting antenna design
