Hand grip strength tester.

This device is called a hand grip dynamometer and to all intents and purposes it's a weighing scale with a hand grip.   It works quite well, although I can't vouch for its accuracy without a suitable test setup.  (A 100 pound weight).

The device does seem quite well made, which is reassuring when you are gripping it with extreme force.

When I broke my hand a few years ago, I had to use one of these at the hospital to evaluate hand strength after a few weeks of healing and exercising. It looked more like a precision measuring tool extending from end of the grip. It had a large mechanical dial that remained at peak until it was reset. I believe it worked similarly in that a bar with known properties deflects a certain amount based on force. In this case, I expect it was linked to the gauge rather like a torque wrench. My "good" hand rated 53kg and my healing hand 77kg. The therapist was quite pleased with that progress.

Thanks Clive! I massively enjoy your channel!

Just multiply kg by 10 for a close enough newton reading.

Big Clive

What? No newtons option? May the force be with you...

Also Clive, if you can get your hands on them, pleeeeaaaase take apart one of the kegel trainers with bluetooth interface (it's for training Lady-specific muscles).

Just needs a bluetooth interface and people with weak hands can strengthen them via jump&run video games.

I just checked. There was five pounds difference. The right hand is just marginally stronger.

Big Clive

If your using 130lbs of nut busting torque maybe your doing it wrong?

Michael Gilchrest

Hey Clive, Can this fix wanker's cramp?

Dane

You didn't do your left hand. Would of been interesting to see the difference

Strength tests to test the affects of alcohol. Base line to start, then test after each drink...like from zero to drunk.
