Can you guess what it is yet? (Not a video).

Slight track loss during processing.  Fine for a prototype though as it's mainly to get a feel for spacing and ease of building.  I always prefer to make a physical prototype or two before getting PCBs manufactured.

China is having its main holiday at the moment, so there's no rush anyway.  I don't like to place orders during their holidays as they deserve a break from work.

"Can you guess what it is yet"? That's the paedo Rolf Harris' catchphrase.

Apparently there are at least 1/2million other people who enjoy high quality YouTube channels. Nice work Clive, you deserve success.

You had made a comment in a recent video of surface mount components, i believe you said you havent done much of it, is this to test that. Maybe a kit to sell for us to test our skills as well cuz, anything BigClive is "mint"( stolen from zipties and biasplies) but then add leds, solder, blinking or rolling lights etc. Im down for a kit or 3. If thats were your going with this or im way off and thats not what your up 2. Again i didnt read the posts, i watched and thought about it for a few days. Then replied.

It's an illuminated coaster for cups of tea.

24 leds with 6 per side running in a random pattern. Can see where leds go and a resistor off each arm of the micro controller. Purpose ..... to confuse approaching aliens. Suggest button cell power so it can be deployed wherever the alien threat is away from a handy usb source. Anyhow, whatever it is I need one!

What is something thats never been in my kitchen? Alex?

Aaron Nadler

RFID?

But how fast can you get the PCB from sketch-in-a-notebook to ready-to-attach-components-to-it? (And how are you doing it? Kinda curious, there's an idea I've been kicking around my notebook for a while that would work with SMD pretty well)

Mark Dennehy

I switched over to SMD only prototyping about a year ago and haven't looked back (crap breadboards mainly being the reason not to). With good solder paste, a foot operated vacuum pickup tool, and a modified toaster oven, I can knock out a board with 100ish components as fast as I can remember BOM to designators, more so after I made a bunch of 3d printed SMD tape dispensers.

Warning - tongue in cheek reply follows: I consulted the cat and she says it's a 'Meow'. After scratching my head and consulting with 'The Dragon' we're not sure if it's a 'One of them', a 'Doo Dah', a 'Thingamajig', a 'Whatchamacallit' or a 'Doohickey'. In the end we agreed its an 'electronics voodoo gizmo ' (voodoo because of the surface mount magic).

Nuts 'n' Proud

I like how it looks, but can't guess at a function because your interests are so varied, Clive.

Michael Thompson

I like how colourful it is <3

I need one please

Yup. All designed around 1206-size SMD resistors and LEDs. Actually very easy to solder.

Ring of multicolored LEDs powered by USB with the positive in the center and negative around the edge. There's a resistor ring around the positive rail feeding the individual LEDs

For us lazy ones you could add a temp sensor / alarm so you are notified when your beers getting warm or your Horlicks is getting cold.

John Russell

PIC microcontroller (with a lot of i/o's); probably a 555-1234. Ground rail around the outside edge. Each microcontroller port connects to an individual LED through a resistor. Each LED is thus independent and neither in series nor parallel with the others. This indicates a potentially high variation in current demand and potential for loading down the voltage. I don't know. I made that all up.

Hangover detector.

Mark Trombley

Coffee Mug Warmer? damn. now I need to build one...

Hmm, 24 LEDs, USB powered, got it, it’s the illuminated stage for Mr Bunbuns 2019 upcoming Easter Extravaganza.

Not really a disco coaster, but an illuminated one just for the hell of it. Powered by a micro USB plug.

Big Clive

wow clive, you really did it.

Michael Gilchrest

A module node of the first working teletransporter

Michael Gilchrest

Disco coaster. Or “discoaster”?

Hard to say, looks like nothing more than a ring of LEDs to me. Also, don't worry about placing orders, there's no one here to take them up anyway. (Am in Shanghai, it's usually a ghost town on CNY.)

Sprite_tm

I’m thinking that it is maybe a more reliable parking distance sensor. But I am very likely wrong. Or backlighting for Big Clive PCB logo.
