Inside the Puripod "ioniser" (it's not.)

I bought this from an eBay seller - and as an extra treat it arrived defective, making loud electrical arcing and popping noises.

It's actually quite well made inside, but it isn't an ioniser as it's often described. It's an ozone generator.

Jeebus - Argos are selling them, and the "info" video is terrifying https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8728140

Appreciated, thanks Clive

There's a huge range on eBay and also some more expensive units optimised for car work.

Big Clive

Ozone generators are often used by car salesrooms to remove smells from cars. One like this with an extension cable should have a good effect. If you search eBay for 12V ozone generator you'll also find a wide range. But avoid the metallic cigar socket ones as they are often just a blue LED.

Glad I'm not the only one who wants to know more about that wee scope; my bro has a couple of older CRT scopes that has has 'just in case' - and he has dragged them out in the past and used them, but it's a pig. I must check out some of those reviews, see what it's suitable for, and see if that'd be useful for him at work (he does a mix of mech and spark stuff) to save him lugging his monsters around. After all, I did forget his birthday...

I've been ( not very actively ) lookingfor an ionizer / ozone-r for the car to get rid of stubborn smells. ( the previous owner was a smoker and either lived in the car or frequently carried wet dogs lol ) done the usual steam clean etc, even got a ClO2 odour remover, which was pretty good,. are these things OK for use in a vehicle ( clearly not while driving ) and not necessarily looking for a 12v cigar lighter version TIA

Cheers, I'll have a look

The Tinkering Shed

It was the Marco Reps video that sold me on that model.

There's plenty of DS212 reviews on YouTube. e.g https://youtu.be/lxxS6rvrk3o where Marco Reps takes it for a spin (includes a peek at the hardware internals and how to add a new waveform to the signal generator with custom firmware).

I only got this one recently after looking at various reviews online. It's always hard to tell what's a real review and what's a paid review, which will usually be kinder to a product.

When the discourse on a topic is as thorough and robust as BC's, there is nothing left to say. Well done, sir. ( I too have learned over the years to never text, email, comment, or lick faces under the influence of anything but coffee. )

So a while ago I was also lookig into small scopes but I dident find anythig that I thought was worth my money. I endet up getting the UNI-T UT81B Scope meter. This is a porteable oscilloscope/multimeter. Rather basic, only one channel, but certenley good enougth for simpel things. Also it is capable of using its current range in the scope mode wich is pretty neat. So far i have put it trough quite a lot and its holding up flawlessley. Controlls are a bit finekey but you get used to it. Seingt only costs around 180.- I think its a pretty good option.

I'd appreciate a video on the small scope, don't have one yet, my bench scope died (old crt tube fail), not going to replace it but am going to buy a small one, would be interesting to see how useful they are first.

The Tinkering Shed

Man I can smell that stuff through the screen, cut it out! :D O wait it's my monitor AAAAH!

Michael Thompson

Here's a comment to fill space. And some more. I did like the video. I clicked the heart shaped clicky thingy. But I didn't comment at the time. The little scope was interesting too but I couldn't see the screen very well. It would be nice for a little travel toolkit. But it's dangerous to comment when vodka-lemonade-ized while also sleep deprived. Could make a comment about licking faces being ok. Which it's not. And you go back later and wonder what you were thinking. But I'll never understand the strange attention to design detail in a device that is sold as an ionizer not an ozone generator.

Bouncing oscilloscopes, now i have to watch!

Michael Gilchrest

And bounces.

Big Clive

Yeah, it makes me worry that something's gone wrong.
