Electrocuting bananas? (not very exciting)

I'll let you guys decide if this video should even be released.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTzgWrq41LY

It's really not that exciting due to the apparent low conductivity of bananas.

Noting that the initial current was still the maximum I achieved in my recent shock demonstration video.

Electrocuting bananas? (not very exciting)

Comments

Pickles can glow under Canadian mains power. Gotta be a good light emitter at 240

Did a test with a potato a long time ago. Maybe time to revisit it.

Big Clive

I liked that film.

Big Clive

Spuds in there next, maybe cucumber.. both nice and watery! >:)

mikenco

I'm a bit late, but I liked that vid. The boil-cuted banana looked one a miniature version of one of the worms from Tremors, after it had been shot!

mikenco

P.S. I've watched you make cake in a cup, electrocuting fruit is a definite post to the channel!

The Tinkering Shed

Disappointed that you didn't show the datasheet for those bananas Clive, you're slipping... boom boom! 🤣 (Ah'll get ma jaiket...)

The Tinkering Shed

I'll keep that in mind, but I ate all the remaining bananas.

Big Clive

" 31/2 W per banana" said nobody, ever, until now :)

Phil Collins

I had hoped you would cook one in its skin

Tapewolf

The canned hot dogs are actually of Dutch origin.

Big Clive

It is conclusive proof that passing current through your non distended personal banana creates a little steam, bloating and a slight increase in firmness.

Definitely gherkins next.

evilution

2 parter ... end the video right before you plug it in and ask people to guess what happens with the caption “will it explode?” then post the rest of the video the following week :D

Michael Gilchrest

Well, that might be the weirdest thing I have ever sung "Mellow Yellow" while watching.

If you're looking for ideas for things to cook in it: snake (sliced to size), twinkies AKA yellow elongated cream filled snack cakes, candy bars, fish, eel, electric eel would be cool, gummi worms, spam, corn on the cob, avocado, ostrich egg,

Nani Isobel

The jared hot dogs were rather jarring to me. The only hotdogs I've ever had in a can here are Vienna sausages in the plain gelatin and they are strange. If you jump the pond I'll take you to Rutt's Hut https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutt%27s_Hut

Aaron Nadler

Thanks. It's a good video. It had to be done.

Nani Isobel

I'm thinking putting bananas in the microwave with the skins still on might be more exciting. Maybe wrapping them up in electrical tape first?

Try something with the casing on, like a kielbasa or bratwurst. That should heat up and then eventually explode, maybe violently with a light show? American hot dogs are skinless which is part of their problem. :P

I'm going to have to say let this one slide.

Paul Malloy

try cooking Dill Pickles. They would glow and make sparks when I'd use nails and wire to run 120v through them

Yep - Agree with everyone else. Add to the release schedule. :)

Shaun Runham

Definitely good enough to release. Someone had to do it. A nice bit of gentle humour for April fools day. I agree with Fredrik about dropping the anticlimax bit.

John Russell

I think bacon strips and maybe salty pickles as the next test objects. Or other types of saussages.

Definitely release it - be a good laugh. Wonder how raw pork sausages would work on it?

John Carr

So you could use a banana as a current limiter for standard 5mm LEDs? 🤔

Fabian Schillig

btw, great video, I love the opening whiff of smoke/vape! The bananas may be boring, but the video certainly is not.

Paul Schuur

I would send you a can of dutch 'Knakworst' (literally: snapsausage), that basically looks the same, though perhaps smaller than Wieners and hotdogs...

Paul Schuur

Just drop the "anticlimax" bit from the title and publish the video today and you're all set. (btw, the hot dogs in the glass jar are bockwurst, which traditionally comes in jars, to make them look more premium (and they're supposed to be boiled in the brine, for extra shelf life)).

This video definitely doesn't hit the high-bar you set electrocuting yourself.

Howard Simons

Oh, Clive... There's quite the makings of a joke. Don't you know that you shouldn't put the word "fit" on the internets?

When you run 12 watts through your banana, you will feel a bit of warmth. Yes, your banana will go limp when you unplug it. LOL. Release the video, the comments should be a hoot!

I'm trying to find pickles that actually fit. We don't have a lot of choice here.

Big Clive

Maybe an entire tin of SPAM?

Dustin

A wet stick of dynomite

Dustin

...or even non-food item.

What would be the most 'visual' food item one could electrocute?

You didn't safely discharge the banana. (Come to think of it, that would have made a pretty good April 1 joke if you had put a capacitance meter across it.)

Rob Clark

Use PICKLES!! Seriously dude, it'll be SWELL!

B3

Well it was certainly different.
