UK versus USA hot dog electrocution.

A different brand of canned hot dogs available in two styles (three if you include the jumbo ones that haven't been tested yet.)

Lets see how they compare in the Presto hot dogger at 240V.

Noting that the skinny ones actually started exploding forcibly at the end of their cooking cycle.

Clive, Try putting a few pickles in the hot dog cooker....turn out the lights.

omfg I pizzled myself watching this - many giggles.

Steve Lemon

You should take that and go visit photonicinduction.

Jessica McIntosh

They were made in Holland. I do have some other meatier dogs to test.

Big Clive

It's probably better that I don't look it up. That said, even after watching the hippie-brigades anti McDonalds videos it didn't stop me enjoying Chicken McNuggets.

Big Clive

They sure choose the lowest grade meat in the canned variety. Look up Mechanically Separated Meat on Wikipedia.

In my 68 years, I have never seen canned hotdogs in America. Hmmm.

So where were the " American" dogs made? Have never seen em in a can till now. Notice count was 6 and buns usually 8. Wonder if beef vs turkey, etc would pass current different

Well that explained a few things like where the big packs of Hebrew National went.

Kadah

That was fun! Good stuff, Clive!

Clive, your obsession with electrocuting phallic food items has me a little concerned. :-)

Howard Simons

You read my mind.

Howard Simons

This one hits all the right triggers to make me happy. Is that odd?

I think we need a new regular series! Every Friday a new trashy blue collar drink du jour and a new food product to be electrocuted. For science.

You need some Hebrew National beef franks!

Jorg Jorgensen

Thanks Clive.

Nuts 'n' Proud

I wonder if I should attempt a DIY Heath Robinson lash up clone? (It is a joke, no I won't do it!)

Nuts 'n' Proud

In what looks like a now removed blog post the folks at evil mad science stuck LEDs in theirs and got them to light up, effectively using the sausage as a ballast resistor. Suspect with 240V across a quite short sausage they Volts per MM may be excessive.

They're 'Amercian' style hot dogs (on the back of the tin at the top!)

Mark Wayt

Those are not American hot dogs by any means. Hot dogs don't come in a can here in the US. From a package of hot dogs in my freezer (beef, water, dextrose, salt spices, sodium lactate, garlic, sodium diacetate, sodium erythorbate, paprika and extractive, and sodium nitrate.

That would need quite a few ice packs otherwise I don’t know how fresh they would be when they arrived... At least if you are shipping from the U.S. that is. I am sure the contraband sniffing dogs in customs would love those as well. 😆 Edit: I know hotdogs are pre-cooked but I don’t know how well they would fare if they sat on the warm tarmac/vehicle while being transported.

"American-Style" hotdogs from Holland: total of 227 g for 6. Oscar Meyer weiner: 45 g each. Costco food court all-beef hotdog: 4 oz (113 g) each. https://www.mashed.com/103084/dont-know-costcos-1-hot-dog/

Clive, if you need certified 'MURICAN hot dogs, let me know, I will set up a care package

And they're only rated for 120V.

Big Clive

Interesting that Hopi instantly reported a perfect power factor of 1.000 for the weenies (salt) and it took well over a minute to report a PF of 1.000 for the bananas (sugar).

I mean, after you run 240V through them it probably doesn't matter but still...

Mark Dennehy

The hotdogs here are more or less dry and vacuum sealed in plastic packaging. I've never seen hot dogs come in any sort of liquid, minus what they have themselves, let alone a can. Just look up 'Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs" for a picture of what they all generally look like here, at least for your common hot dog.

...but aren't American hot dogs made with beef?

Mark Dennehy

Remember the American hotdogs only cook properly on 60Hz.

Lostngone

I can say I have never had a hotdog from a can. Canned Chicken, yes but hotdog, no...

Lostngone

The fact you do this, let alone record and post it for us, is why you are a fantastic person!
