Uploading issue.

Hi Guys, I'm just letting you know that I'm really struggling to upload videos at the moment. The local Internet providers tend to provide bumpy upload speeds at the best of times, but I tried to upload a 1 hour video last night and 12 hours later it had only managed to upload half of the video and then failed shortly afterwards.

I think I'm going to have to keep the videos short until they solve their issues.

That's why you steal/borrow/use someone else's internet. I was at a hotel over the weekend and uploaded 1TB of data to my cloud account.

Sean M

We used to call that SneakerNet.

Idiot. BTSync is called Resilio Sync these days.

Neil Brewitt

Suggestion: rent hosted server space which allows BTSync, which should smooth out some of the unreliability for you. https://forum.resilio.com/topic/18076-cloud-syncing/ BTSync is a glorified bittorrent so it will keep retrying tiny bits of each video file over your flaky connection until it jolly well has the flaming lot. It also does all this in the background. You'll also of course need to buy BTSync for two devices.

Clive, My internet is flakey. I upload my videos to Google Photos with the web browser. I then tell youtube to get the video from Photos. I hope that helps.

Nuts 'n' Proud

Clive, in the future if (when) you have more upload problems and if Sam Thompson's suggestion of Google Photos doesn't work... like Travis Kneale offered, I can spin up a VM (home server or on DigitalOcean) with Chrome/Chromium and Firefox and give you remote access where you can rsync the video (can be resumed after a disconnect!) and then upload from there.

Martel DuVigneaud

Copy the video to an SD card, mail it via post to a trusted friend somewhere not on the Isle of Man, and have them upload it? Even with the postal delay, that _still_ might be faster. Modern-day equivalent of "Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway."

Zig Zichterman

satellite internet is very slow, 250kb/s optimal conditions upload speed, plus the bandwidth is very limited.

Michael Gilchrest

I do use a 4G modem and right now it's dragging.

Big Clive

A work around you can use is by a VM from some hosting provider and using something like https://syncthing.net/. Or anything that can resume a download. Then upload from that vm to youtube, as the vm will have a mutch more reliable connection. If you want I can make you a vm on my home server (in the US) if you want to test it:)

Travis Kneale

Is there Prepaid 4G data sims like Australia 30gb for $30 and up for uploading. cheap and usable when needed. We can Crowdfund it

Is there any satellite internet available there? How ouchy is the price? Maybe we could crowdfund you.

Nani Isobel

If all else fails you could do part 1 then part 2 so on. To keep them wee uploads.

Living on a island has its benefits and its pitfalls.... I feel your pain I don’t live on a island but I do live in Alaska.

Lostngone

It will be all the kids playing on the internet, it's the easter holidays.

Paul Ferguson

I looked into that first, but couldn't find the option to upload from Drive to Youtube anywhere. Youtube does have an option to import from Photos, though, and there's also a desktop app to sync a local folder, which probably also recovers from dropouts better than a typical browser upload.

George Dorn

I'll try not to complain about my 30/3 Mbps cable for a while. 320KiB/s upload is a little frustrating at times, but at least it works reliably.

Ah hah! You can use Google Photos 'Backup and Sync' desktop app to upload your video to Photos, and then directly import it to youtube from there. That's assuming you're uploading from your desktop and not directly from your phone. That said, there's a phone app for Photos, too, which will probably upload better than Youtube.

George Dorn

There used to be a way you could upload to Google Drive (using the desktop app instead of a browser, as it is much more robust) and then email it directly from Drive to Youtube. This either doesn't seem to exist anymore, or they buried the mobile upload email address in the Youtube re-re-redesign.

George Dorn

Good luck Clive. No need to apologise to us. However long they are we will still love 'em. :D

Shaun Runham

There is a trick that a friend of me uses. He first uploads it to his server because he can resume the upload there if the connection fails. After its on his server he just uploads it from his server directly to youtube. If you like i can ask him exactly how he does it.

Leon Schutte

I upload small clips and join them together in YouTube’s own editor.

Peter Eduard

Nihil carborundum. Soldier on.

Dropped you a PM of some use :)

Hm - i upload videos 10m+ about one a week and never noticed anything below 150MBit/s on a 200 line

I love the wacky advice on here. Yeah, chuck it in the post! Then why not have a mailman on horseback deliver it!!? lol Threaten to name and shame the provider if they don't sort their shit out! ;)

mikenco

So now isn't the time to mention the rock stable 500/500 megabit fiber I got? xD

Mikey

Exactly what I just just thinking!

Kean

You could use a rented virtual server as an intermediary. Upload to it via (S)FTP (resumable) and then push it to YouTube via the data center uplink. If you want to give it a try, I can help you set that up.

Julian Picht

What have you against the isle of man for that first option? ;)

Chloe Cresswell

Disclaimer: I don't do that. However, I follow folks who do and read their experiences. YouBoob seems to frequently penalize providers, particularly those who create lengthy (> 15-minute) vids by throttling the upload. One (unappealing) trick to circumvent the throttling is to reduce the resolution. Another, apparently very successful, is to flag the upload as 'Private' and speedily upload, then edit and change to 'Public', or 'Unlisted' if it's for only your Patreon or other select viewers. HTH

I had no idea the Isle of Man had moved to Australia

Sam Yates

Hopefully it is just a temporary issue that will be resolved soon.

Michael Thompson

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a 128gb flash drive sent through the mail, lol. Send it my way and I'll upload it over 50MBit broadband.

David K

Clive I suppose I could do it ? Post it to me and I upload it as unlisted on my channel or we find a way to get it to yours. As suggested by Michael Gogesch I live near Cardiff, I have only 9Mbps upload - 37Mbps down John

John Harrison

Why not split the video into part 1 and part 2 and upload them separately?

Gadgetman

YouTube should let you mail them an SD card.

We’ll all club together to have the Isle of Man towed ashore - where do you fancy? England, Scotland, Ulster or Eire? Silly question really.

The uploadfilterz! The activated the uploadfilterzzzzz! XD

Tim Albers

Bummer…

Zane Revai

You can try to upload your video to Google Drive first and then choose it from the upload menu on YouTube. GDrive has a far better upload mechanism that can also recover from dropouts.

EpicLPer

That sucks... hope it will be sorted out soon!
