5G description rewording.
Added 2020-04-08 01:34:15 +0000 UTCThe 5G video was pretty hard to make. It is aimed at the average lay person and had to strike an awkward balance between covering technical aspects without going into rocket science.
It was absolutely inevitable that the radio geeks would be unimpressed at my vague exploration of the RF spectrum. It was more about making the connection between familiar radio signals, "5G" and light being in the same spectrum and not being "nuclear radiation".
To reflect that this video is based on my opinion (and also to help cover my ass) I've reworded the description to express that this is my opinion.
I've changed the description to the rather vague "How to use 5G death beams." Suggestions for a new title are welcome, but keep in mind that it has to be short and catchy.
Here's the new description:-
I've been trying to avoid this subject, but as things are getting out of hand I feel I have to address this issue before people get hurt.
This was a hard video to make as it is inevitably technical, so it had to be simplified to avoid becoming a long video only suited to RF geeks. The frequencies I mentioned will vary according to provider and geographical location. Some providers may use higher frequencies, but they introduce coverage issues with some building construction materials.
I'm very open to contributions of valid data in the comments, but that does not include wild claims based on scientific folklore, and it certainly doesn't include the use of children's safety to reinforce a false message. (Munchausen syndrome.)
So my own personal opinion is that a sensibly implemented 5G system is safe. I don't think it causes cancer, or other health problems, and I don't think it kills puppies, kittens, or babies. But what DOES cause health problems is unnecessary stress induced by people who seem to have an agenda to either get attention or make money by promoting a conspiracy theory.
If the scaremongering, incitement of vandalism and targeting of street lighting and communication workers results in an injury or death, then the people responsible for causing that should be held accountable.

Hi Clive, I'm a radio comms engineer, I totally support your descriptions, could see that you were trying to keep RF simple...but its not...just a little nugget for you, at the lower frequencies..longer wavelengths....RF advantages are distance travelled for a given power out, hence why legacy TV and radio lower in the VHF low UHF spectrum can be transmitted at high powers (and they are) Kilo watts in some cases and could then be TX from a single regional mast... as we go up the spectrum, UHF towards microwave etc the wavelength gets smaller. This has affects on propagation, such that the energy dissipates much sooner. The higher the frequency then significantly more power needed to cover the same effective distance that say a VHF signal from a single mast would achieve. Electronically transmitters like this are impractical and energy wasteful, hence mobile companies (MNO) resolve the conundrum by using many low power masts to fill a given space with phone signals. As the wavelength shortens penetrative capabilities improve, hence why a mobile phone can generally work indoors (although metal clad / framed buildings and windows with metallised films etc will block or attenuate RF at these frequencies...so a generalisation made). VHF is never particularly good at building penetration needing large antennas on domestic radios to pick up a few microwatts or external directional antennas for TV. A good example, before advent of Tetra radio, Emergency Services in UK had VHF radio for distance (around 150 to say 180Mhz was typical typical base site transmits at between 30-50 W and a vehicle around 25W), typically covering dependant on topography and interference around 20- 25 miles if uninterrupted. UHF radios were provided to take into buildings...Fire still use UHF radios (around 400Mhz ish at 1-5W) for incident ground comms. But the factor is power transmitted, UHF is low power, really low in RF terms, mobile phones and 5G typically mW. As frequencies increase they also get into realms of 'line of sight' so again MNO need to have more masts or at least sites on buildings etc to give the consumer as near uninterrupted phone calls as they can, low power combined with line of sight combined with short distances before energy dissipated is the challenge. I agree that there are too many conspiracy theorists causing angst...I don't agree that there is a health risk associated to normal users, obviously a rigger on a mast sat in front af antenna will need precautions of course...thumbs up for the tutorial Clive 👍
2021-05-29 09:21:25 +0000 UTCIt can use up to 300GHz, but it starts getting so directional and easily blocked that the higher frequencies will probably only be used as direct links between towers. In highly populated areas the data connection for the pillars will probably be fibre optic, so I'd guess that they will stick to more or less existing 4G frequencies.

2020-04-09 22:21:11 +0000 UTCWhoa woah woah Radio Geek here, and I found your descriptions to be wonderfully fine! So much so that when my phone loaded the video while i was dozing I listened again and still had no trouble. So there's a twice listening Radio Geek (N2NLQ at your service, quick bow) that wholeheartedly approves! F the general populace. We already know we aren't them. Some you will reach, and others...well think if it as evolution in action. Much love, brother.

2020-04-09 22:03:18 +0000 UTCHi Clive. Are you sure your wavelengths are right? 5g can use 72ghz which is sub millimetre? I know that the towers won't use the high frequency but that's what the scare mongering is about.
2020-04-09 16:11:52 +0000 UTCI applaud you for teachable moments. I hope more of you have kids and spread the truth through reasoning. If idiocracy becomes reality i really, really don’t want to continue living

2020-04-08 23:34:18 +0000 UTCOne the one hand it's good that you're doing this. Thanks. But I have doubts people who believe this stuff are reachable. Hopefully I'm wrong. But you could spend the rest of your life doing nothing but chasing after people to wipe the drool from their chins. There are a lot more effect things you could be doing. That you have been doing. You're doing good. I guess I'm saying don't go down every rabbit hole.

2020-04-08 19:33:31 +0000 UTCBoing Boing is featuring your video now. :) https://boingboing.net/2020/04/08/5g-radio-waves-are-a-poor-choi.html
2020-04-08 17:17:46 +0000 UTCI had a coworker say that covid was set up so they could give us all injections that contained microchips. They apparently could be activated by 5G to control our emotions. It’s crazy what these fear mongers come up with.
2020-04-08 17:08:49 +0000 UTCOuch! One little tin foil cap joke and people want me to drink Drano!

2020-04-08 14:48:52 +0000 UTCI'm kinda surprised (and somewhat gratified) that the comments have so far managed to remain mostly relatively sane, I thought for sure it would have descended into a complete shitfight by now, only 50k views so far though...

2020-04-08 10:28:21 +0000 UTCHow about adding "Alleged" before Death- just to cover your ar5e? otherwise the description is fine and to the point. Unfortunately the Flat earth mentality will always be around, but at least those with an open mind may learn something.

2020-04-08 09:54:51 +0000 UTCI hope "How to use 5G death beams" doesn't get you removed before the YouTube police actually watch this. And listen.

2020-04-08 08:12:23 +0000 UTC"5G death beams: fact vs. folklore"?
2020-04-08 08:02:39 +0000 UTCMaybe you should have just spelled it out for all the conspiracy theory guys the death beams are coming from the sun and this fake virus is a way the government's can keep us indoors and limit our exposure to the sun. So everyone going out if you do it in the middle of the night you'll be quite safe 😉 and this has the bonus that it keeps them away from me 😂

2020-04-08 05:57:03 +0000 UTCI thought the video was great, was just pointing out what HF ,VHF ,UHF were cause till this day I think its funny. For a title maybe you could salvage something out of this "The Truth and Facts of 5G and how it is Basically WiFi ." All your videos are entertaining and it seems I always learn something new or I can better wrap my head around something, Thanks Clive.

2020-04-08 05:44:46 +0000 UTC👍 5G 'ers prepare to be poked! Thanks again for tackling this subject.

2020-04-08 05:27:18 +0000 UTCThank you for this video Clive. The latest craze I've heard people close to me (my daughter and a work colleague) talk about, is that 5G is causing the coronavirus outbreak, and that somehow 'radiation' from these towers has caused the outbreak of a virus. Now I had already done research into 5G when it was first announced and I knew this was wrong information - even more ridiculous than just a 'death beam'! In response, I made my daughter do some research on SARS COV-2 and how to verify where it came from (bats) and how it infects the human body - definitely not from 5G towers! Now I can make her watch your video as well, and she can educate herself on 5G, what it is, and how it affects (or not) us humans. Great video, well timed! I'm being selfish here, but perhaps the title could have been '5G - not the virus you were thinking' or similar, but I'm being entirely selfish there. I quite like what you've called it already! Thanks again
2020-04-08 03:39:27 +0000 UTCDo you mean the 5G meters that... aren't.
Big Clive
2020-04-08 02:55:35 +0000 UTCSurely seeing these screeching mad hyenas frothing at the mouth is the whole point of doing the vid in the first place?
2020-04-08 02:52:44 +0000 UTCWait, if 5G and light are in the same spectrum, is 5G not technically directional nuclear radiation, as light comes from the sun and that is just a big ol ball of nuclear death radiation?
2020-04-08 02:51:47 +0000 UTCThe sort of people we're talking about would not watch a video that didn't comply with their desired information.
Big Clive
2020-04-08 02:51:36 +0000 UTCWe all know the earth is more or less a sphere and 5G is safe. What we really have to worry about are the electric company Smart Meters!
2020-04-08 02:15:35 +0000 UTCClive's use of the term isn't exactly right - he's thinking of Munchausen *by proxy*, and even still that's less "why won't you think of the children!?" and more "I am claiming my child is ill so I can get attention from doctors".
Shame Boy
2020-04-08 02:11:22 +0000 UTCThere's a ton of people who spend all their time searching for videos even tangentially related to this topic so they can show up and start screaming about 5G chemtrails or whatever because Alex Jones told them they're fighting a war. No matter how well or clearly or simply you explain it, the comments are definitely going to be flooded, might want to just disable em' entirely or something.

2020-04-08 02:07:16 +0000 UTCSo sad that people are so willfully ignorant.

2020-04-08 02:06:32 +0000 UTCHmm. I suppose I wouldn’t say you were at your most authoritative talking about the RF stuff, but the “above here bad, below here ok” was clear and to the point. I’d hope that the “average layman” wouldn’t be interested in the conspiracy theory bollocks but perhaps I’m being optimistic. Maybe go for a title that might have broader appeal? “The truth about 5G” or “5G - what they don’t want you to know” or some other cliche. They’d still get your death beams from the thumbnail.
2020-04-08 01:54:22 +0000 UTCThis is so sad - for 'flatearthers' this all in in vain. They are believers. Whatever we'll do - it most likely bang against theirs field of reality distortion field. Just like as it goes with one of the most powerful countries in the world and with its leader, today. Pun intended - It's so sad..
2020-04-08 01:54:07 +0000 UTCMight be a bit long for the 5G ers attention span, but it does cover your ass... Munchausen syndrome didnt know that, I am going to use that next time! Thanks

2020-04-08 01:48:49 +0000 UTCWould "Against 5G scaremongering" be a good title? Better than "Why people are crap".
Mark Trombley
2020-04-08 01:47:31 +0000 UTCWell, Mike, that could be extremely dangerous, depending on just how hungry the people ganged up behind you are. jus' sayin'
2020-04-08 01:47:26 +0000 UTCTo be honest Clive, I think it clearly spell it out, that 5g at low power is no more harmful then Standing in front of your microwave waiting for your dinner to cook, I am a licence amateur radio user,
