Fixing my Hotcup single cup water boiler.

Just a random video featuring a device that is way too large to fit in my normal filming area.

https://youtu.be/b0UM1Uvdb48

This is a Breville Hotcup water boiler that has a reservoir of water and a heated chamber that fills with a fixed quantity of water, boils it on demand and then blows it out to your cup using steam pressure.

Note that this is  a 3kW appliance, so it's only likely to be available in countries with a higher supply voltage.

You can see this unit running in this video:-

So that's what happened with mine, hadn't found you when mine packed in so it was sent to the recycle center.

That was a fun journey. A dollop of silicon grease on those switch terminals might help keep the corrosion at bay a little while longer

You probably had the only functioning Maxi in the country. Somehow my family had 3 at one time and none of the bastards would start reliably. Once going though ...

Mike Page

That's interesting. I may have to upgrade.

I once stripped down the engine of a 1750 Austin Maxi and thought I would never get it back together again. It was only the thought of the shame of having to go to a garage with a large box of bits and saying "Can you put this back together for me please" that spurred me on to get it rebuilt. It then ran perfectly for the next 50000 miles much to my surprise.

Most outlets in US at 15 amps and 120 volts. 20 amp for appliance outlets and high demand. I just wired my outdoor hot tub and that was 220 3-phase at 60 amps. I’ve always thought the UK plugs look like Lil’ Tikes toys. Big and chunky. I can appreciate the need with 3kw in a kitchen outlet! You folks don’t like to wait long for you tea, do you?

I've always wondered what standard domestic sockets are rated at around the world but was never able to get a clear answer. Here in Australia it's 240V 10A so 2.4kW, but we also have standard indoor domestic sockets for higher currents - 15A, 20A, 25A and 32A. What do other countries use indoors at home? (Not counting industrial/outdoor sockets like CeeForm etc.)

For a minute, I thought the lid had beat you.... No way! I hate springy things. Let's complile a "Top Ten" of things you wish you had never taken apart!

Hey Clive, I found the biggest standard lithium cell that will fit in the nice little head-torch, it's a 102540 cell with a (nominal) capacity of 1300mAh

Yes, he does match my irregular sleeping pattern exceedingly well !

We have one of those so this may come in handy down the timeline. PS Struggling to sleep....
