Dollar tree VS Poundland lamp and hack.

After seeing a video made by Adrian Black I decided to compare our most recent pound shop lamps with his dollar store lamp.

https://youtu.be/YeWnHnZ-ojw

The results are very interesting, and hackable to turn a 10W lamp into 5W or less to gain lifespan over intensity.

I saw one of the dimpled ones in John Lewis in Glasgow. The price was disturbing for a light with an unreplaceable lamp. My version costs a dollar and has a personal touch. (The bit where you crunch it into the desired shape.)

Apparently iceberg lamps are already a thing on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/Grand-Nostalgic-Natural-Collection-Iceberg-Shape-4w-LED-Oversized-Light-Bulb/123768139124?hash=item1cd127ed74:g:XLsAAOSw3Hlc2yfi

I watched Adrian Black's video, and All-American Handyman pointed out that Adrian pronounced Aluminium the British way " All-American Handyman 1 day ago Fake American Alert!! 15:12 ... your pronunciation gives you away. YORE A BRIT!!" hahaha! The more I watch your videos and then the people you mention, such a s AvE the better it becomes!!

The pot would need another resistor in series to limit the maximum current.

At the end of the video I could see you soldering a resistor pot and drilling a hole in the lamp cover for the dimmable version ;-)) as long as it does not go to zero ohms :-) John

I think the connection between Poundland and DollarTree is "China"

I've got one, but I've never thought of using it for that. I'll give that a try.

After also watching Adran's video I went and purchased some DT bulbs and took one apart to see first hand. Good to see you explain how it worked. Might try and do a resistor swap as well

I think it might be Saint Nicholas wearing a "bishop's mitre" hat rather than 'Pope Santa'.

Clive, Get a seam ripper from your local fabric store. It works quite well for stripping away insulation and heat shrink.

I would like to send you a few goodies for Christmas from Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ is there a public mailing address where we can send things?

Nice idea

I think i might have mentioned it before, but what about taking apart one of those "non-rechargable battery charger" units? they're always in the catalogues my aunt gets sent (which unfortunately are pretty much designed to get money from the elderly) and every time i see them i wonder if they work and if its dangerous in any way. If it does work then it would be interesting to know how, and if not, then at the very least it's another quack product ticked off the list

There’s never a bad time for a tear down!!

3.20 am. What a time to watch a BC tear down video
