Added some squiggles.

I've added some yellow squiggles to the tree (each with its own control channel) and changed the star to warm white.

Total current draw now around 5A at 11V.

Now I'm pondering adding a modified string of 225 warm white LEDs to the middle of the tree and maybe another 225 blue LEDs on the outside of it.  That may just make a huge wiring and visual mess though.  They would also each have their own channel.

Added some squiggles.

It's hooked up to the controller.

*looks at his own box of lights from lidl* Fecks sakes Clive. You're making it very hard to compete.

Mark Dennehy

I love how smooth it all looks.

Michael Thompson

I kinda like the first minimalist green version. I'm currently programming it.

Big Clive

If he's old enough it might be worth getting your son involved in helping make things. Glad you're getting better.

Big Clive

I have toyed with using a background of blue LEDs with random ones swapped for candle style flickering white LEDs. But it would be quite time consuming.

Big Clive

Using your new controller, you could even cause them to "twinkle", just a thought.

Mike Hughes

What about single , warm white leds just randomly placed at a low current as though behind the tree , in the sky, or maybe even a recognisable constellation or two such as the plough and Orion, with individual resistors to vary the brightness of the stars.

Mike Hughes

You have been quite an inspiration to me to make this Xmas rather special for my son, after being ill and unable to do much, I am now better and am building lots of light -orientated themes just for the big day. Thanks Big Clive ;)

Is the background grid charged so that any flies get zapped?

Baubles would work.

Big Clive

My mom and atep dad have had a aluminium tree sin the 70's and still put up that tree every year

Cleveland Prescott

It would be alot of work but, a guy could run single LEDs colored on the outline of the tree as if it were decorated. But it looks good. The first picture (all green) looks Christmas season, the added color looks like all season. Either way tho looks really good.

You could hang christmas balls in the tree

Awesome, you've got a good eye Clive. Don't make it too cluttered though, hard to stop I know ๐Ÿ˜Š how about a few 'dashes' radiating off the star, like stink lines?

Might be an ask now but I imagine a few ornaments, then a cat at the bottom, then a cat head in the tree and the ornaments on the floor. Just to make it realistic ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿคฏ

The Tinkering Shed

Given the local controversy I was tempted to use a bigger star with "5G" inside it.

Big Clive

Juan also mentioned that. He reckons we should get sponsored by the local ice cream company.

Big Clive

Looks good! Kinda reminds me of icecream.

Nani Isobel

Still needs a light-up BigClive logo. Maybe in the middle of the star...

Scott Miller

Blue and white lights: heh. Back in the late 60's/early 70's one one my aunt's had a chrome tinsel artificial tree with all blue lights and ornaments.

Paul Ste. Marie

The more LEDs the better!" Go for it BC!

That looks great

I like the squigglies., Nice work...To be expected from someone of your skill. :D

Honorary Octopus

Truck or "lorry" 2inch marker lights come to mind, as long it doesnt look to tacky

Coil B

Maybe explore the world of light up decorations๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I like the squiggles, another colour in the tree I think would add to it, like a few ornament looking things?

Coil B

Department of Villainy controller making the tree build up and then animate.

Big Clive

...but don't clutter it.

Andy Brown

A few strings of animated Poundland snowflake LEDs (+ resistors) ?

Andy Brown

Because more flashy lights = better

I am not sure why the squiggles would be on separate channels. They represent snow which would be static. Ornaments or tree lights might be dynamic.

Mark Trombley

How do you envision controlling the channels?
