Inside a recalled power bank.

This was sent for our entertainment by a chap called Peter.  I finally got round to opening it and analysing the circuitry inside to see if I could work out why it was recalled.

The design looks fairly solid, but they have jammed quite a lot into a small space.

"What's the worst that could happen", said Clive. "Boom!!", said the Lithium cell..

Phil Collins

All cells are in suitable flame resilient metal trays.

Big Clive

Do you mean the X-Ray device? I think that's what it's called... ;-)

Stephen Eyles

Clive: Do you keep your 'liberated' Lithium cells in a COSHH cupboard/locker? If not, how can you sleep soundly at night with all those bombs in the house? :-D

Stephen Eyles

11:06 - changing P to Q - reminds me of consumer electronics which are available in Turkey (probably lots of places actually) called SQNY - written in a very similar font to the original!!

"Amazon has received 53 reports of the power banks overheating in the U.S., including one report of chemical burns due to contact with battery acid and four reports of property damage, including fire and smoke damage." Acid?

Seems to me that in the name of thorough investigation you should give the bottom corner of the batteries a whack with the Hammer of Science, to check your theory.

It could be just something as simple as bad workmanship. You said a couple of components were soldered on by hand. Perhaps they had had some failures due to that.

Neil Tonks

Your statement is correct. Thank you.

Your right hand was off to the left by one key. gappebs=happens

Nani Isobel

Could it be as simple as the unpeeled adhesive? That pad may be a part of keeping the battery from getting shocks.

Nani Isobel

Sometimes recalls happen because someone managed to be "creative" with something that happens to go public. Possible opportunity to profit.
