Automatic house ignitor.

I ordered a pink one of these, but they sent blue.  It kinda takes a bit of the drama away.

It's a very simplistic heater that could very easily be dragged off a table or accidentally turned on without realising it was plugged in and would then merrily torch everything in the vicinity.  It only took a minute to scorch material and has left its signature just out of shot on my bench.

Interesting little heating element though, even if it did crumble a bit when removed.

I do have both these house-burners and house-coolers - and they do work perfectly. I have to admit that I replaced burner's AC cord even before trying it with proper grounding.

The same case seems to be used for a variety of products, which is quite interesting.

I cropped this out of a completely unrelated photo of something else I found on Reddit, but, doesn't this fan have exactly the same housing as your heater? https://i.imgur.com/NIK0zee.jpg

Here's a thought.. If you take off the lid and point it upward, you could pour ingredients into the "pie-dish", switch on the heater and voila!! self-cooking pie

I would have expected the DC resistance to be lower. Incandescent light-bulbs normally consume many times their operating current until they warm up. Must be that it isn't running all that hot (relative to a light-bulb)..

Gordo

I find that these plastic cable restraints are much easier to remove if you heat them a bit with your hot-air rework machine first

I shall be exploring many large Poundlands in Glasgow in a few days to see what I can find.

Enforcing standards means opening parcels at customs so that would delay all goods and cause endless problems. Its what the customs declaration labels are designed to prevent but this ultimately depends upon the honesty of the seller...

I made a lamp from an old quartz heater some time ago; slid a strip of LEDs into a straight glass tube, it worked well!

Stephen Eyles

It does break the live until someone plugs it in the other way round!

So, You now have an Aloonimum liner for the Explosion Containment Pie Dish!! PS. Poundland are selling 2000mah "Frozen" power banks for a £1 as of 29/11 (Oh and also Dayglo luminous pink Spray paint if you want to spray the blue cage!)

Mike Hughes

If you lie it down on anything else it should be OK... :-D

Stephen Eyles

I wonder what the quartz tube would look like with an LED filament threaded through it. With reflector it could even make a decent lamp.

MrTridac

That had been going through my mind too. Orange LEDs or maybe even just blue for a weird look.

Big Clive

Slightly, yes. But generally there's a tiny stretch that separates all loops evenly

Big Clive

I believe you are right about it being a fan in a former life. I have a 120v fan that is in a cage that looks exactly like your little heater. I'll find it and post a pic of it!

It's horrific to think that people in "civilized" countries can buy this to put under their desk and die with their children in a fire. I honestly don't know how there hasn't been some kind of crackdown on dangerous Chinese (they're always Chinese) electrical products. We know the USB chargers have already killed people but I've never seen any public official speak about the need for enforcing standards compliance on Ebay imports or at least a path to make claims against manufacturers.

Bill Kerr

Wouldn't the resistance depend on how many loops of wire are actually touching and how many are separate?

Mark Trombley

I wonder what the quartz tube with a closely spaced string of LEDs would look like.

Mike Bird

Ouch! Let’s hope nobody buys this for grandma/grandpa!

Not so easy to measure in a decisive manner due to the spread. The glowing red element will give a clue to the hottest area though. The thermal camera doesn't give accurate readings on some materials.

Big Clive

Have about the same frame, and yes it has a fan, labeled Lakewood two holes in the back hold the motor

Anyone actually using one of these: If the worst happened your house insurance company would probably refuse your claim. Never mind; you saved on the initial cost.

Keith Miller

Check out a usb powered fan.

Neil Tonks

I wonder if the holes on the back are for another version which can be screwed into a lamp socket. Not sure I'd want it dangling above my head though. :)

Isn't that the case for a usb powered fan? It looks remarkably similar to the one in my shed. Even down to the power switch placement in the back

Neil Tonks

Can you please measure the temperature? Just out of curiousity :-)

Paul Schuur

Is is just me or is everyone else thinking... FIT THE OTHER ELEMENT
