Here's the finished video.

This one seemed to upload quite quickly.  It's also using a different recording device, so will sound different.

The seemingly silent hot air pen is just weird.  I've still to discover if I can somehow disable the built in audio processing.

Here's the finished video.

You can convert traditional push-in tungsten sets to LED, but it does require a simple power supply that can either be a resistor based one for very low power or a capacitive dropper for higher intensity. I've made a few videos showing the conversion process and also have a page on my website about it. http://www.bigclive.com/fairy.htm It may also be possible to fit a standard LED set into the existing decoration.

Good timing with this one, we have a decoration that uses tungsten bulbs in a push in configuration. wired straight to the mains (UK) , can I remove them all and replace with an LED/Resistor combo straight from the mains or would I be better with some kind of driver?

The parallel strings of lamps never really took off here since the 240V version of the lamps is very delicate due to the very thin filament. I'd guess your LED lamps may have a small capacitive dropper in them and just a few LEDs.

A good camera on a phone is also useful as a magnifying glass.

The 720P was due to me not checking the video size settings. I'm working on improving the sound.

I've found (with my aging eyes) that an inexpensive USB microscope is great for looking at and photographing tiny components. Just a thought....

This device is definitely crushing down the video and audio bitrate as well as only recording at 720p, hence the quick upload time. I suspect the audio from the hot air gun was dumped as part of the encoding or it could just be a noise reduction feature to enhance voice.

In the U.S. (at least, when I used Edison base tungsten bulbs) all the bulbs were in parallel. They took 120v and were about 7w each. During the rest of the year, they were sold as "night light" bulbs and there are a range of LED replacements for them. If one of mine fails, I'll mail it to you along with a working one and you can take it apart. Don't hold your breath, though, My oldest one is happily cool and functioning 8 years after putting it in a fixture running 24/7.

Lovely video! Almost every building here in Sweden has at least one of those lamps in them around this time of year.

I've noticed that at many of these Christmas fairs they make the ride owners change all their lighting caps to white to match their bland fashionista colour scheme. They may also have specified static lights.

I'm keeping an eye on other options, but the Patreon/YouTube combo is still a good choice at the moment.

Talking of carnie lights, we went to the George Square crimbo market this week, my wife wanted to go on the carousel. They really needed your help on that ride, all LEDs but some were out, many were mismatched colours, some had the cover missing and there was no animation at all, just all static on. You would have been so disappointed!

I love the things I learn on this channel

Thanks Clive, you can find something interesting in everything! Sound has a bit less bottom end so is a bit clearer, but lost some of the warmth and is a bit breathy/brittle. I'm guessing it's using another mic for noise cancelling which is causing the silent air heater, there's probably a little pin hole opening, usually at the top/rear of the phone which you can bung up with blu tack if you want to play with that feature. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Nice

Clive have you looked at floatplane.com? Maybe think about hopping on the platform I’m sure many like myself would love to support you through it

i could not resist i just bought 2 packs of 30 to try in my pinball this should make the unit run cooler

They're fine. They are usually in parallel. Problems only tend to occur with some halogen-only low voltage power supplies that need a minimum load.

Big Clive

conventional tungsten halogen in various large domestic fittings with LED GU10, etc. Are such fittings in series/parallel - where does it say ? Will there be a "nuclear" event in my parents' home

Whoa, ... I am replacing conventional
