New poundland light is really good.

When I saw this I thought it looked a bit flimsy.  But it turns out to be a rugged little light with an interesting twist to the design.

It takes standard AAA cells, but I'd recommend using rechargeables as the higher current with fresh alkalines will result in a lot of heat if used at full power.

I've put some test data in the video description.

Clive, could you not hear the masses screaming "you missed a screw!!!" ;-) They call that formative causation

Indeed it is, for a maximum of 5 seconds :)

One day, some Chinese manufacturer will produce a little 6-pin LED driver without epilepsy mode. It'll be GLORIOUS!

Tsld of 300°C looks like maximum solderig temperature to me.

I keep thinking with lamps like this why not cut some tracks and solder in a transistor or something to make it a simple ON OFF lamp. In the past I have considered a magnetic reed switch but there are so many magnetic tool in my bag I bet it would turn on and go flat. Back in the 1980s we made our own large diving lamps and the easy way to make sure it was waterproof was using a magnet. A few of the torch bodies did implode at around 20 - 40M deep so we did add a bolt on schrader valve so that we could pump up the torch body to compensate. I had a few trips to Scapa Flow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scapa_Flow Makes me laugh at head lamps today, my caving lamp was an ex miners 4.5V lead acid with a 1amp bulb and the other modification we did was take the end cap off an old "Bic Cristal " biro stab it with a needle and push it into the water trap vent holes on the miners battery; a lot of caves I went in you were up to your neck in deep water. All the best John

I remember looking at it but then putting it back because of the strobe setting. It drives me mad that manufactures think nearly all head torches need to flash.

Nice small unit that actually has worthwhile battery capacity, instead of those cr2032 things that dim after 10 minutes.

That's a good point. It had a nice rectangular recess. Maybe an extra resistor to limit maximum power.

If it wasn't for the heat issue this would be an ideal product to convert to rechargeable using one of those disposable Li-on emergency battery packs.
