Smart pound-shop light.

I've been getting some interesting stuff while over in Glasgow.  Most of it will be taken back for proper analysis at my usual workshop, but some stuff like this little light is perfect for a short video.

The fluorescent tube style diffusers are very reminiscent of the awful handheld flashlights that used to have a short fluorescent tube down the side and ran it cold cathode style causing the ends to blacken quickly.

This light provides solid even illumination on the faux fluorescent tubes.

Well how about that with no resistor? Wow that's interesting. Yeah I'd have to agree that a resistor would be a good addition

Michael Thompson

add a 3 ohm resistor

God 420

They're relying on battery and wiring impedance and the increase in forward voltage on the LED. Not ideal though.

A LED directly on a battery? With no current regulating resistor? Should that LED not burn out in an instance? I'm confused...

Hub Rijcks

It's just some wires flopping about, so tacking a resistor in would probably add to assembly time. They could have added a SMD resistor to the side light panel though.

How much money does missing out the resistor(s) save? I suppose some extra assembly time?

Keith Lambell

And you could always add a resistor to stop pushing that 1W so hard.

That's a tidy wee light.
