Testing "aqua" strontium aluminate glow pigment.

The aqua version of the strontium aluminate glow in the dark pigment seems to release light much slower than the green stuff.  This means it looks a lot dimmer, but glows for much longer.

I've not tested the last bit - since I'm sleeping well at the moment, so haven't woken to look at it in the early hours.

A very interesting property of strontium aluminate is that it is thermoluminescent so if you heat it up a little it also starts to emitt light. It looks really nice if you put a bit on a heatplate. I bought the strontium aluminate from eli and the bluish ones are alot dimmer than the green one. I am also wondering if the lit strontium aluminate really is brighter than the normal one but i didn't buy it

Resin Block ideas are very popular on PINTEREST

indeed, only way to find out is to buy it.

NightshadeLenar

It looks convincing. Only one way to find out.

I frequently get called that.

Is this the "good" stuff ? https://www.amazon.com/Fluorescent-Coatings-Encapsulated-Strontium-Aluminate/dp/B07NNN96S8/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=strontium+aluminate+glow+pigment&qid=1583872494&s=amazon-devices&sr=8-3

That's why I mentioned the wire, there would be something hidden that refreshed the pigment occasionally. A slow heartbeat kind of effect.

Idea: Pendant made of resin/glow pigment with potted UV LED as you described and a coincell with piggybagged 555 timer circuit that pulses the LED every few seconds to refresh the glow. Would probably look really intresting!

Has anyone ever called you the "Bob Ross of electronics"? Because i think that describes you pretty well :)

Our local "One Below" pound shop sells the quick setting 5 minute resin but for the same price (-99p hence the name "One Below") you can get a 30 minute cure version- which might be the better option for these. Very nice project anyway.

Mike Hughes

Very cool! Those look great

I've dipped blue LEDs in pigment loaded resin and it actually blocks a lot of the blue light and creates a glowing hotspot around the LED position when the LED is turned off. Maybe a more diffused resin would work better with less pigment.

The eBay seller appears to be the company.

Between this and the earlier pendant test ... I keep thinking the pendant version, if you put a small LED into the vial, potted it in place with this kind of glowing resin, and threaded a small wire up the sides of the chain on the pendant top, you might end up with a unique piece of jewelry. I've just nudged the wife to consider something like this.

The Eli-glow powder is available on Amazon prime for £14.22.
