Troubled times in some industries?
Added 2020-03-19 01:03:17 +0000 UTCI know that many of you are feeling the effect of the coronavirus shutdowns.
Remember that you can lower your Patreon contribution to just $1 if things start getting tight.

Thanks Clive! I just keep on keeping on and make the most of every day. I got nailed by toxic materials in a lab and (medically) retired about 20 years before I wanted to. Cheers

2020-03-23 00:16:18 +0000 UTCWe've just locked down here. Thanks for your support of the technical channels. Do your best to isolate yourself from society as much as possible until this is all past, but don't let it stress you out too much.
Big Clive
2020-03-22 20:23:07 +0000 UTCI'm in Sydney Australia. As the effects of the virus bites the lockdown get worse. I've just subscribed as a patron because I want to do my little bit to help you continue. Particularly after reading this post. I have a stack of medical issues and am on a pension but have chosen to support three content creators - you, Eevblog and Louis Rossmann.

2020-03-22 10:56:09 +0000 UTCWow. LOL
2020-03-20 00:57:56 +0000 UTCMy income is secure, mate. I've no plans to drop support for your channel or any of the other support offerings I give monthly. It's a small contribution, but together, your fans can really make a difference. (Funny how a lot of people making small efforts can equal a huge change in most facets of our existence.)
2020-03-19 22:19:25 +0000 UTCNewer-ish furry, tech guy, AV guy, programmer, and musician here. Furry officially started around 2003 for me.
2020-03-19 22:17:45 +0000 UTCI would never cancel my support for you unless me or my family started to suffer. This is a very nice gesture of you and because of that, you have my support 100% Clive.
2020-03-19 20:34:07 +0000 UTCMy company provides services to hotels all over Europe. This industry is fucked. We provide TVs, wifi, movies, software, soap, minibars, you name it.

2020-03-19 19:04:27 +0000 UTCI'm sure quite a few of them do watch channels like yours in their downtime, more so now due to the bloody virus.

2020-03-19 18:17:44 +0000 UTCYes, I noted that part of your livestream. Going way back though, it was a kind of even mix between those who could create the services, and those who used them, IE the artists and writers. Hence, the VCL, my contribution from the tech side to the creative side that otherwise wouldn't have a place to publish. I eventually started writing, or throwing words at a keyboard and waiting for the spellchecker to beep at me. But your comment about tech and furry, yeah, we tend to be shy. In my case it was because I loved to program, and if I did it well, it worked. If it didn't, I got to correct it and try again. A lot less trouble than trying that with a partner. :)
2020-03-19 18:10:18 +0000 UTCIt's like everything else when it goes commercial. On a plus note it's reassuring that most furries seem to be very technically inclined.
Big Clive
2020-03-19 18:00:04 +0000 UTCAnd just FYI, "furries" is still a bad word for the original fans of Anthropomorphic Art. Those old enough tend to use it in the phrase "Furries Ruin Everything", kind of the way Anime fans refer to the Hentai fans.
2020-03-19 17:53:25 +0000 UTCThe Internet answered a lot of unaskable questions from day one. It's been very liberating.
Big Clive
2020-03-19 17:47:48 +0000 UTCYou have no idea what you just asked! *bwahahahaha* I'd guess about 1986, roughly. I was in the right place and time during the period where the Internet was finally becoming available to the public, I helped with that in the local area. I was a network protocol engineer and of course the best way to test code is to stress code. :) Velan Central Library terrified a generation of kids. :)
2020-03-19 17:45:12 +0000 UTCNow I'm intrigued that if you have furry connections, then how far back does it go.

2020-03-19 17:37:47 +0000 UTCMy Patreon support comes in as American dollars and is paid into my existing PayPal account where it stays as dollars. My Google Adsense support is paid in pounds and goes into my normal business account. Direct PayPal contributions are in a wide range of currencies and are usually just kept in PayPal in those currencies. All exchange rates fluctuate and there's nothing I can do about that so it's just what happens in the background. The only tricky bit about the multiple currencies is when I do my yearly accounts and have to convert everything to Pounds using a government supplied chart of the years average exchange rate. The first time I had to do that it had my head spinning.

2020-03-19 17:33:44 +0000 UTCAlready retired, budget is set, no worries. Besides, LED videos AND entertainment that mentions furries? Damn well worth the price. :)
2020-03-19 17:32:04 +0000 UTCI realise that the situation is serious. They've just enacted a lockdown here on the Isle of Man with an emergency act that dates back to 1936. If anyone visits the island they are on a 14 day self isolation, and if they breach that they face a significant fine and/or 3 months in prison. I think it's important to play down the severity to a degree without cheapening it, because creating an aura of hysteria will result in more deaths in people who would otherwise not have died. The stress caused by fear of dying will undermine people's ability to combat what could otherwise have been a simple short fever. Those same people who would not have even thought of going to a hospital for what seemed like a normal seasonal bug will now be panicking and turning up at the overloaded hospitals in a state of genuine distress.

2020-03-19 17:26:40 +0000 UTCKeep on drumming, Phil 👆
2020-03-19 16:48:10 +0000 UTCI'll keep going as long as I can, lucky enough to be on a salary and working from home, I won't be surprised if I have to go into isolation due to health issues, but that means I'll REALLY need stuff to watch. It's good to know that someone gives a stuff, and my sympathies to anyone suffering.

2020-03-19 16:02:14 +0000 UTCClive thank you for your gesture of goodwill at this time. As I work in the food production industry , I will still keep working not just to earn money but help people to keep eating and will keep on paying the same amount to you Clive. I enjoy your videos fellas keep up the good work
2020-03-19 15:41:20 +0000 UTCNot dropping my patreon pledge but it's not being overhyped IMHO. There are always wacky people that blow everything out of proportion. I think most of us know who to ignore. It's like a Figure skating competition, they throw out the high score and the French score to make it fair. 😉
Jim
2020-03-19 13:29:55 +0000 UTCHeck I increased mine. A small price for the amount of education/entertainment. Out of curiosity could you comment sometime in general on the percentage the different currency your support is in. I read where the pound was tanking
2020-03-19 13:20:17 +0000 UTCWe need things to educate, distract and entertain us. Keep going. Certainly not dropping my small contribution.
2020-03-19 10:55:07 +0000 UTCThis is such a great gesture! You are a good man, Clive. Fortunately the "Retired" industry is doing quite well so I have boosted my contribution by another 5 dollars 'For the Duration' as I think they used to say. This is a difficult time we face but we are all in this together.
Bill Kerr
2020-03-19 08:15:04 +0000 UTCStill busy here building circuit boards. Thank you Clive for being so considerate, it's a wonderful thing to say. Thank you and take care.

2020-03-19 08:14:34 +0000 UTCWe are continuing to work. You make me want to cry. Oh wait that's everything sorry. Much love to all
Michael Thompson
2020-03-19 07:31:14 +0000 UTCJust when I didn't think I could be any more of a fan, you do this. I am (atm anyway) lucky enough to work in an industry that everyone still needs and wants, even in times of crisis. as long as I get paid so will you. Without going in to some political rant, (that's what twitter is for) I hope this ends as quickly as it started, and people remember those who helped and those who screamed and shouted and spread lies, just for their own gain. To everyone who's here be safe be careful and lets get through this.

2020-03-19 04:44:43 +0000 UTCGot laid off here in tech... company was pivoting but the virus did not help. I'll continue my patronage though.
2020-03-19 04:06:20 +0000 UTCClive, I'm still supported tho I am "sheltering in place" and not able to visit my workplace. I have plenty of income and so far no loss of food or drink. Would appreciate it if you would take the concept of flattening the curve a bit more seriously as that is what we need to push through this event at the moment. I realize that there is some silliness that will come from this but now really isn't the time to exploit it. Hoarding toilet paper may be stupid but suggesting people who do so abuse themselves in the process is not up to your level of integrity. Stay well and keep doing wt you do best. Normalcy is what we need in these trying days. Thanks.
2020-03-19 03:42:31 +0000 UTCI respect your callout, it shows concern for your followers. My work is unaffected by the current events, so Ill jump on the upping support bandwagon to help keep the keel even.
Myrk
2020-03-19 02:20:27 +0000 UTCSo much respect to you for the way you constantly show obvious gratitude to your patrons and care about our wellbeing. I work in the same industry as you but I won’t be changing a thing. Your videos will likely be keeping me sane while I rattle around the house with no gigs in sight.
2020-03-19 02:17:39 +0000 UTCI'll increase my donations to you brother.
2020-03-19 02:04:45 +0000 UTCI was laid off just ahead of the trouble. I debated dropping off patreon, but these videos really help. Thanks for all you do!
Jason Brinkerhoff
2020-03-19 01:37:09 +0000 UTCBig Clive, you are a big man with a big heart! PS: I upgraded my tier just to make it up if someone downgrades. Self-employed IT guy, work from home, so it won't hurt. Love your videos. Stay safe!
2020-03-19 01:28:53 +0000 UTCClive - we lost more than 90% of our income for this fiscal year (ends in June) because the NCAA canceled all their championships, but my $20/month to you is worth every single penny. We might not be out shooting sports but I still have to work on my electronics projects and my 3d printing models and I have friends here in Minnesota who are looking at closing their restaurants and coffee houses permanently. They will be getting a sizable cash gift from both me and my business to help them keep their doors open. 10 years ago I would have just dropped my support without note or comment but today, as long as I still have a job and still have a salary deposited every two weeks, I will keep up on my commitments to the people that bring me joy and entertainment.
Ryan Coleman
2020-03-19 01:27:38 +0000 UTCThanks for suggesting it! Fortunately or unfortunately I've been working from home a lot before all this, so not much has changed. As long as the network stays up and I keep typing, they'll probably keep throwing money at me.
Nani Isobel
2020-03-19 01:18:16 +0000 UTCBig Clive you are a star, very thoughtful of you. Keep up the great videos.
Ian Simpson
2020-03-19 01:14:26 +0000 UTCI was actually planning to increase my small contribution. I was just thinking yesterday how much money I've saved by watching you pull things apart, rather than me buying similar items to just do the same. Of course, some of the better items I have gone on to order for myself with extra confidence. Cheers Clive!
Kean
2020-03-19 01:14:14 +0000 UTCI've a horrible feeling that it's been over hyped by the media, and while I think people should take suitable precautions, the situation and potential survivability is not being helped by the generation of unnecessary stress.
Big Clive
2020-03-19 01:09:25 +0000 UTCWorks just closed down. Luckily I'm still getting paid, at least for the time being. Take care all, stay safe!
2020-03-19 01:08:46 +0000 UTCFortunately I'm still employed and working from home. Thank flying spaghetti monster for small favors!
