Late night MRE testing.

I'd had a busy day with not much food, so it seemed logical to crack out one of the MRE meal rations that Kim Sleep sent a while ago.

Pretty darn tasty.  Very strong onion/garlic flavouring.

Obviously I had to light the gas liberated by the chemical heater again.

Late night MRE testing.

Reminds me of some airline food. 'Lucky Dip' bags within bags, took forever to find anything.

The title of Clive's Memoir will be "I was owed a walnut"

As Elliott said, the 16047 date code is probably for the 47th day of 2016. Most US MRE manufacturers use the military standard four-digit modified Julian date, where the first digit is the year and the last three digits are the day of the year. MRE Star appears to have opted for a two-digit year, which can be useful for differentiating 2016 from 2006. With regard to 'best by,' those don't exist for MREs-- how long they last is largely dependent on how they are stored, but you can expect 2-3 years even if you store them in high temperature environments, or many more years if stored cooler. Beyond temperature, a deciding factor for the components is the presence of fats and dairy, which will generally spoil a couple years sooner than the rest of the MRE. Modern MREs are usually made without diary and with (processed) fats and oils known to keep for longer periods. For the crackers, with that entrΓ©e, I think most folks would crumble at least one cracker into the soup, to give it a little extra bulk and texture. If you had a packet of peanut butter, jam/jelly, or cheese spread, you might use one or both crackers with that. Soldiers who eat MREs, frequently, find creative ways to mix-and-match the components, to keep the limited MRE menus from becoming too boring. I think I kept my last box of MRE Star MREs for too long, because I became quite ill after eating one. I don't like the selection of side dishes and deserts from MRE Star or AmeriQual, anyway, and usually buy Sopakco "Sure-Pak" these days. Also good is freeze dried food, particularly from Mountain House (they supply freeze dried food to the military for cold-weather MREs). Anyway, glad you liked your MRE, and thank you for the video!

The mystery flavored suckers are created when they are changing flavors. They don't create the suckers in batches, they do it as a continual process. So when they change flavors there is a period where they suckers might be the old flavor, a mix of the old and new, or the new flavor.

Steve1989MREInfo is a must-watch on youtube for expanding the knowledge of MREs, some of which can get quite exotic

I don't know about anyone else but after that the crap orange lighter has redeemed itself in my eyes. Anyway we're still sadly missing an Ashens/Clive crossover, just because his reaction to this stuff would likely be totally different. Both get the same random MRE and try it together on a stream, the only rule is you have to eat all of the 'main' because Stuart often doesn't when he tries something like this.

Not sure how many viewers from South Africa you have but refering to a "cardboard box" as a "doos" will go down a treat... You see the word "doos" in Afrikaans is the word for box (like in Dutch I suspect) but also the rude slang for a vagina. πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

β€œA moist towelette for one’s rectum” …say it as it is Clive!

Phil in the kitchen

Production date is probably 47th day of 2016. Based on the number stamped on the main.

"Chernobyl in a bag" hahaha!! You've got some cracking one liners!

I love these videos, all the little and big packets great fun...well except that coffee of course what a bummer.
