They've simplified the atomiser disk circuitry

The water/whisky atomiser disk units used to have fairly complicated circuitry to sense the transformer current, but they seem to have streamlined that a bit now.

It seems a logical approach.

I used generic supermarket whisky. Which suspiciously cost less than their supermarket rum.

Big Clive

I wonder how the mist volume compares.

Big Clive

Those are the main useful components. The unit can be used for more than water in its original form though.

Big Clive

Few mention a timer function, and Clive (quite rightly) won't advertise a particular model, though I do try to pick up on clues as to which is best from his detailed tear-downs.

Andrew Donaldson

Suggestion for tonights life stream: misting ethanol -> lighting on fire.

MrTridac

The frequency is determined by the pulsing of the transformer on the piezo disc. Yes smaller droplets come from higher frequency, ie more energy 👍

Cerity

So, we can't adjust the frequency, but new devices claim to have a higher frequency and therefore smaller droplets ?

Andrew Donaldson

If Ralphy brought over the good stuff and you started spraying it around the house I bet he expressed - disappointment is too mild of a word.

I had a very similar unit, worked well, except the timer was a frankly useless 30 seconds. (Carefully not mentioned anywhere on the external packaging, only in the instructions) mine was round and very nicely constructed. Sadly when I went to try it with 70/30 ethanol for a hand sanitiser and flamethrower test 3, months back, it was rsndomly dead, no go. Got a useful odd shaped Li-poly pack that was the perfect size for resurrecting a small "USB spy" camera I have on an old drone, but no other useful parts.

Looks very similar to the nebuliser I took apart a couplle of weeks ago, that had extra voltage control to allow 5v or 3 x AA cell inputs.

The Tinkering Shed

Definitely fun to try, once 😂 but i worry unlike the pressurized propane or butane nozzles this isn’t pushing enough pressure for flamethrower ☣️

Cerity

The commentary BC mentions he tried the air wick electric heat diffused chemical liquid and it gummed /trashed the plastic. Also mentioned you could use the PG for a more viscous vapor... whiskey is a flavorant or odor which would not impact the disk due to ‘contaminants’ 👌

Cerity

have you tried filling with isopropyl alcohol and see if the mist is flammable.

Charles Bruckner

That’s for the aerosol/ vapor units right❓ nifty upgrado👍 parts count min maxing So for 5£ that’s a 150 mAh lipo, and tuned transformer and piezo? Any other high value parts

Cerity

Did I miss the part why one would spread Whisky using such devices?
