Acoustic foam test

Comments

Sounds a lot better x

Michael Brenkley

Like the added foam. Good sound!

Frank

I think you should do a short video tour of you place. I would like to see behind the scenes of Big Clive!

Matt Larson

it did a effect it's much better and it's really good

Groovy1024

It has to get past all the foam first.

Big Clive

Yep better .. but the main question is , does the glue burn ;)

Robert Morley

Very different. Not for the better. While you've killed the echo, you've lost the mids and highs that make your speech more intelligible. It's too bassy and muddy for my liking. If I had to pick, go back. Maybe just use small strips vs. large panels. It's definitely harder for me to understand your words now.

Mike Cowen

It had a very clear effect. The “after” audio is much “cleaner” (less reverb, drier), and easier to listen to than the “before” audio. As some have said if anything it might be dampened a tiny bit too much for a “live” venue, and re-adding a few areas of harder surfaces might add a little more “colour” to the sound (the “after” sound is a lot closer to a recording booth, I think due to the size — ie you have close dampening). But of before/after I definitely prefer the after a lot, so job well done! Ewen

Ewen McNeill

Speakers on my 2019 MBP was immediately identifiable. Well done.

Ryan Coleman

Immediate effect you had less reverb. A few seconds in my ears normalised you. I this you sound a little clearer overall. :)

Broxie

Oh, 1000% better, sounds much more natural. You are not living in a box (or maybe you are partially), but please don't sound like living in one. +1 Mike: Much better for speech indeed!

Hagen

Much better for speech indeed!

Mike Weijmans

Night and day difference. If anything perhaps too warm with. Maybe less deadening would be an option?

Richard Robinson

I did not notice an issue with the audio until you pointed it out, without the foam you had a little natural reverb, with the foam the volume was lower and sounded dead :(

definitely warmer tones, maybe a little too bassy making it sound muffled. A good start, little more tuning and you will be there

Richard Boyce

Okay initially it was boomy but it was also brighter Afterward the boom was killed nicely, but it also cut down the high end slightly. I presume that is because the high frequencies aren't reflecting into the mic any longer. The loss of the boom makes you easier to listen to

Michael Thompson

It appears to be deadening the sound a little from what I can hear in these small speakers.

Rocco Rizzo

The effect, listening on on my PC speakers, is minimal, intelligibility is not noticeably different. Through my TV/HiFi system the effect is to smooth out some of the harder "boxyness" which hinders intelligibility so that indicates the foam is an improvement. On a similar vein https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjZHFIdfUFk compares various acoustic room treatments in relation to speaker construction.

Mr B Shepherd

Yes definitely better, sounds just fine, certainly sounded "boxy" before. I would call that a win.

Definitely a bit nicer - the echoy highs are gone. Does seem a bit muffled a bit but probably correctable by turning up mic gain a notch, perhaps?

Roland Roberts

It does sound a lot different. I'm designing a 3D printed audio deflector in my head right now. If that doesn't work I'll use a different microphone.

Big Clive

very different. but the volume seems lower.

David Turmelle

To be honest your voice sounds more muffled to my ears, although I suspect over time I would get used to it. Who knows, maybe I wouldn't have noticed if I had only listened to the second half.

Philip Stephens

I find it harder to hear your speech. It sounds better at first, but similar to the high/low tone rocker on an old radio - speech is more discernable on the 'Hi' setting. This is the 'low' setting.

Robert Sanges

I agree, much more directional, so much so that it was more difficult for me to hear when not talking in the direction of the mic.

Jamie

Much more comfortable and approachable sound. Definitely more directional and you will need to be more aware of trying to speak when out of the pickup cone of the mic you have but overall I say definite improvement over the sharp highs.

Raymond Richmond

Big difference. Highs are absorbed, leaving a mellow tone. I like it.

Chuck Kirchner

gone from concrete box sound to slighly, slightly talking through a pillow. It may be a little too flat, try removing a panel or two to allow a little of the brightness

GL_1_Code1_1A

What an amazing difference, certainly a worthwhile project for a recording area..

Midrange is clearer. There's still a big lump around 120Hz which I'm used to taking out. But highs do feel muffled.

Mike Page

High frequencys are noticeable more directional. When you where talking and you turned your head I could hear the roll off of the higher freqs. Like you said, the lower boom is still there as it would be do to the box size.

Jeff Larson

A marked improvement.

Charles Bruckner

You now go quiet when you turn away from the mic.

Dave Davies

Does sound as though your phone is wearing a face mask.

Andrew Donaldson

SO MUCH BETTER NOW!!!! Way Less BOOMY In My Ears 👂🏻 With The Foam Vs Without Foam!!! From 🔊💥👂🏻 To 🔊💬👂🏻!!!!

Zane Revai

Huge improvement! Sounds almost as good as the normal workbench videos now!

Phr3d13

You now sound less like a station platform announcer...

Andrew Donaldson

Definitely less boomy than the audio was before. A worthwhile improvement!

Charles

I've since watched the video!

Mike Hanley

Also, if they behave like the ones in my shed, they'll fall off the wall in six months so keep that spraycan where you can find it :D

Mark Dennehy

Is it flame retardant? :)

Mike Hanley

Huge and obvious improvement on clarity, but the volume is now dropped somewhat, you might boost the mic a little.

Mark Dennehy

Huge improvement

Massive difference, sounds like pro studio now!

Mike Wynne

There is an improvement I must say. There is still a load of bass but it's better than how it was.

Sounds way better! Almost completely got rid of the echo-y sound

Andrew Diamond

Big improvement
