500V to 12V 3A PSU module

This is one of "those" videos that will only appeal to a smaller group because it's technically involved - the trashier videos get more views.  But variety is the spice of life.

This power supply is very interesting because it is designed for use with higher voltages in equipment where there are two or more phases, but no neutral.

It also has potential for use on some DC traction equipment if extra filtering is used to limit voltage spikes.

Ha ha.. my first thought - I when I started watching "I wonder if it could be used on 240V", an overengineered supply. But you don't get owt for nowt, presumable if the voltage was reduced by a factor of 1.7, then the current through the MOSFET & primary winding would be similarly increased, plus the bootstrap circuit would be receiving less trickle current. I'd be interested to see what happens if you're willing to give it a try..

It's really nice to see an inexpensive Ebay board where, clearly, a whole lot of fucks were given in its design and manufacture. Such a change from the usual!

Great to have a more "serious" video, a very well made supply, I guess even in completely 3 phase environments, 12v DC is often needed and these are the boys to do it. Still love the trashy videos too, like you say variety is the spice of Heinz!

Heh I kinda got it right, thinking it might be a PSU designed to cope with surges. I just didn't guess it was SUPPOSED to be connected to a surge full-time.

I got my answer with ZD1 and U3. One thing, the transformer doesn't look like it has EMI shielding copper band. Strange, since there are snubbers galore everywhere else!

My first choice of power supplies for anything involving reliability or public contact is Mean Well. Mainly for the "Fluke effect" of the brand name.

The "Branded" three phase to 24VDC supplies that I see happening across my bench are all the exact same form factor same placement for everything just, "Siemens, Allen Bradley, Sola, etc" on the cover. Out of the box they don't last long and repairing them is a very often not successful for various reasons. If these do as well then I guess that makes them just as good! :D

Nice to see a well designed product. Seems to be the exception.
