Zapping a Scotch Egg

I know some of you hate these videos, but they're just a break from the technical stuff that seems to appeal to a wider audience.

This time it's a classic British snack - a Scotch Egg that is "getting it".

Don't be fooled by the promising 2.2kW power surge.  The German sausage still holds the crown.

I was going to be making a video tonight, but have ended up checking out the power card in my elderly neighbours TV due to lack of enthusiasm for driving the LEDs.  (The LEDs seem OK.)

Try knockwurst sausages, but not the ones with the painting by Van Clomp inside :)

Update: I asked the dragon (wife) if we can have Scotch Eggs a la volts and got sworn at.

Nuts 'n' Proud

Thanks Clive. I have a set of 240v forks. Mind you I do plug mine into my isolation transformer. Now to find some Scotch Eggs in France... (I might make some Scotch Eggs). Best wishes,

Nuts 'n' Proud

Finding a good scotch egg in the US is really difficult. Making perfect hard boiled eggs is super easy in the Insta Pot, but the fried, breaded sausage part is the tricky bit.

Anyone who doesn't like the food-zapping videos needs to just not watch them. I usually watch the electronics-related videos on my own, but I'll wait to watch the food-zapping ones with my wife because she finds the whole idea hilariously absurd and she thinks the narration is awesome, so there ya go - wider appeal!

Circuitmike

CE mark = China Export :)

I absolutely love these videos, as I find it hilarious every time I see the forks attached to mains cables (with heat shrink)!

This must be Made in China hence The horrible powerfactor 😄🤪

Mike Weijmans

Tempted to Zap an Onion Bhaji or a Samosa in recognition of National Curry Week?

Andrew Donaldson

That was a bit of a let down. But at least it zapped the eggwhite. It's time to do some blackpudding.

Alice Chapman

It has a terrible power factor.

MrTridac

Good on you for looking after your elderly neighbours, and possibly undercutting any 'White Goods' extended warranty.

Andrew Donaldson

how many Ω in an egg ?

Jeremy Travis

I feel that version two with car jump leads size crocodile clips instead of forks and frozen sausages is next logical step

Orb505

More food "cooking" please. But surely a scotch egg is cheating, given that it's already cooked?

Charles May

Well I did do a banana and a pickle appeared in an MBC live stream. (Oh, and the first zapped thing was a potato, many moons ago.)

Big Clive

Do you have options for us vegetarians? 🤔

The Tinkering Shed

That could be interesting to try with just a bowl of egg white.

Big Clive

I did almost buy the Co-op ones, but already had the Sainsbury's ones.

Big Clive

Keep it coming these are quite entertaining

I like these vids, what fun is there to know how to make electrical whizzbangs if you cant electrocute some food every now and then.

Myrk

Speaking of eggs.. could you try zap-cooking a raw egg placed in a glass bowl? (Shell removed ofc) would it visually show heat/current passing through it?

Clive, im disappointed. I thought this was a Co-Op / International electro-foods channel only. And what do i see? Bloody Sainsbury's produce! This is not acceptable. A Co-Op scotch egg must be tested.

GL_1_Code1_1A

Well now you need to do some hard boiled eggs on their own.

Kate Cole

Darn, I wanted it to explode. We need something that transmits vast amounts of power thru the food. A giant microwave gun perhaps? Maybe a giant Tesla coil that creates a lightning strike strong enough to turn all the water in the scotch egg to steam in under a micro-second.

Mark Trombley

Hmmmm, you now have a "Will it Zap?" series of videos! Keep adding them!

Bungeeskunk

Single Malt is still the best Scotch’s invention, followed by his tape. 😂

Lostngone

I don't recall ever disliking a video for any reason. Probably the closest was how guilty I felt laughing over watching the cats skeedadle when you exploded that battery a while back. Heheh

Michael Thompson

I'm glad you do things like this, so that I don't have to try it.

William Gray

I enjoy the variety of your videos. These zapping food items videos just add to the fun! Keep 'em coming 😃

I’m first in! Woohoo! I’m a Brit in Texas and a good Scotch egg is one of the little delicacies I miss. “Lack of enthusiasm” in the LED drivers. Nice technical jargon. I am ok with some food torture just to keep us amused. I think a Scotch egg is not homogeneous enough like a sausage. It has 2 very different components.
