Is it possible that shunting the negative half wave of the magneto output is to help re-magnetize the "permanent" magnets?

2020-11-05 21:49:45 +0000 UTCHad a look through my textbook, what I think they have attempted to do is make a half wave rectifier. Which would presumably be sufficient for a small engine and bike. I find it odd that they are powering the lights directly from the alternator, but that may just be how its done on ATV's? interesting stuff though, seeing it drawn out and explained in this format is a great help for my course. Thanks :)
