One of the worst chargers ever.

In hindsight I think I should make a video showing how to make a safe charger for products like this.

If you have one of these I recommend cutting the output lead off the charger and binning the charger itself, as it poses a high risk of causing failure of the 18650 cell.

Out of sheer curiosity I got one of these, mine also has no earth continuity through the deathdapter but the charger gives me 4.2.2V with no load so perhaps they did fit a wrong compenent. Get the really narrow beam too with a very low flood.

We have recycling facilities, but I'd destroy the charger before risking it being used by an innocent person.

it's a "torch" in the dungeons & dragons sense of the word..

Gordo

Thats just bad.

Cool! Thanks for checking that out for us. I can only imagine the designers assume nobody will be checking up on them. When you mentioned chucking it in a bin I got curious. Here about once a year we have an e-waste collection (sponsored by companies) to keep electronics from ending up in a landfill. Do you have something like that there?

Nani Isobel

Nice one, thanks. I guess the only thing missing (for maximum consumer awareness) is to let that system charge, film it and after it exploded load the video up to YT?

New product idea for the Fanny Flambeaux range? ⚡🔥🤣

The Tinkering Shed

Wow. Some design engineer somewhere is an asshole to flashlights. Yeah man redeem that thing with a Clived-up redemption charger! :D

Michael Thompson

Maybe I should have turned the device on first. Cue 0.3 V p-p noise. Not so good, but still not likely to explode the cell.

Mark Gray

Right now I'm glad that all of my 18650-powered torches contain protected cells (from known brands). I only have one device that protected cells won't fit inside and that puts 4.08 V across the battery terminals. All good!

Mark Gray

Perhaps it should have read 1/3 cell.

Jason Brinkerhoff

Maybe let hindsight become foresight? If you so, I vote (election year in U.S., where I am) for making a version that would change two cells.
