Building the SplooshMeister Disco Shart light

There's probably a reason nobody has made an ultraviolet moonflower disco light.  But that's not going to stop me giving it a go.

I do have some spare PCBs, so if you live in a country with 220V or higher at your standard sockets, have the knowledge and confidence to work with high voltage PCBs and if you can get one of the cheap disco airship lights from eBay (should cost £15 or less) then let me know in the comments here and I'll send them out to random Patreons.

I would like a board if you have any spare please Clive

I'd like to make one of those lights.

Superb!

I’d love a “Bowl Splasher disco flasher” to have a go at please Clive! 🤪

Photon Phil

I bought a cheap grommet kit off eBay a while back - it has various sizes of sealing grommets - like a normal grommet but without the hole - those are great for covering round holes in panels when you remove things..

In the true spirit of internationalisation, Clive could tweak the board design to have 2 separate chains of LEDs and solder-links to connect them in either serial or parallel. Use a larger capacitor for 110V and you're good to go

The next stream? Scary loft slut!

A dork shits

Me too, as I'm currently keeping my head down messing about with other projects.

Andrew Donaldson

I have access to 239v at my workshop, I haven’t got the airship but can order one 😂

Mike

An anagram of Disko Shart is T' Skoid Rash.

Mike Page

Is there one electrolytic capacitor in them or two?

Big Clive

It could work, but would be restricted by the power and voltage rating of the pot.

Big Clive

It probably means exactly the same thing. Not great, but much better than a blart.

Big Clive

If you ever offer a 110 volt version, put me down for a SplashMaster Turd Dropper!

Jim

I would just be happy to buy the boards from your online shop. If demand allows.

Hi Clive. Please put me in the lottery for one of your circuit boards. Thanks Guy

Would be great to get a board Clive. UK based and happy with mains and high voltage.

Richard Robinson

Can i please go in the draw for a spare PCB

Would love a board, Clive. Currently playing with a new 3D printer, so all sorts of interesting ideas for modifying lights like this!

Would love to make one of these up if you have a spare PCB

i got a bunch of those capacitor droppers you mentioned a while ago for making LED strings of lights - i'm just not 100% sure in if they are all connected properly. the rated voltage of the smoothing capacitor is way below the 400v rating - is there anywhere you'd suggest getting a pack of 400v rated electrolitic, or should i just get a small set of 'the ones i want' for this?

Russell Peake

Or use the pot as part of the current limiting to the LED array, as a way to change the max brightness?

Wouldn't I just have to substitute a capacitor with a lower capacitance to get it to work on 120VAC?

Jeremy Impson

Clive, is a shart the same thing on your side of the pond? Pardon me if you covered the meaning of the word already.

Aaron Nadler

, Great result lovely quality and finish is good, I love that clamp frame for soldering saves some fiddling about.

Equal opportunity for both.

Big Clive

Once this is all over I may contact ISEL and ask if they have a preferred distributor of these.

Big Clive

The flickering LEDs need to be used with a lower voltage parallel array as they go open circuit at part of their sequence and it overvolts the chip.

Big Clive

Just clean the lens on the jumper and then cover it with finger prints while putting it back in the housing.. nice one Clive..

Well for what it's worth I'd give it a go. But if that in anyway means I wouldn't be in with a chance of getting the one that fits in the picture frame then I'd rather have one of those.

Neil Tonks

A great little project Clive. I’d love one please, if there are any spare.

I really would love one of those assembly frames... but couldnt find it anywhere on the Isel website. Any pointers on where to actually get one would be really appreciated!

Unfortunately I live in 110 land. And lack the knowledge and confidence needed. And I think my fingers just fell off.

Mark Trombley

Never say no to tomfoolery lol

I would love to have a PCB, who doesn't love a bit of "high" voltage tomfoolery. I wonder if you can get flickering UV LEDs and have a mix. Might add some interest to it.

I love to give this a go if I’m selected :)

I would a love PCB if your kind enough.

Hi Clive, I've got the disco airship I keep changing the insides of so please enter me for a chance of getting a PCB,

Hi, I would like to have one PCB. Thanks.
