Another good product? eBay is letting us down.

I bought this little rechargeable fridge ozone generator with low expectations.  It turns out to be sensibly designed and pretty good, although it could use a slight software tweak to double its run time.

This is also the hardest case I've ever tried to clip back together.  It uses a groove to mate the two parts, but also two clips on each side that make it hard to keep the grooves aligned when clipping it together.  It was quite frustrating until it suddenly clicked into place.

One of these arrived last week and is now in my fridge. Not sure how I'll know if it's making a difference, but I guess that will become apparent.

There's a lot of stuff I would class as "industrial" on eBay and banggood. The highest risk with the ozone generator might be shock or burn from the high voltage output.

Wanted to post this question for a while, is this potentially one of the most dangerous things freely available to anyone who doesn't understand how ozone works? ]220V 7g/h Ozone Generator Ozone Disinfection Machine Home Air Purifier Part Electrical Equipment & Supplies from Industrial & Scientific on banggood.com https://banggood.app.link/ZTbp1y6vw7

I think folks like us - publically shaming bad products - are probably causing a change. You moreso than I.

That's a rather nice little enclosure; would make a nice housing for some project.. If it said O2 instead of O3 I'd have thought it was a mobile wifi hotspot...

If it starts misbehaving you may need to tie what's left of that pin to the negative rail.

Big Clive

I bought one and received it in the mail already. I snipped pin 5 off the micro and now it will charge and run simultaneously! :-) I see a protection circuit on the battery PCB so this shouldn't be unsafe.

ohh i meant a bed room sized small home office

Can you put an ebay link to this one please Clive? Also same to other favourites 🙂

In a fridge it's probably on the edge of operational temperature. When charging I'd leave it out for a while to get closer to ambient.

Big Clive

Just a thought, when this is placed in the fridge, surely the mAH rating of the cell will be effected? I'm just wondering what sort of difference the low temperature would make, if any at all?

I'm OK with trace level ozone in a bedroom. But not too much. This might work OK.

Big Clive

It is sleeping in standby, possibly with low clock speed and a system to wake and poll the power button on a regular basis. Either that or it's shutting down and waking on port change. You can program PICs to sleep and wake up on various options like their watchdog for very low power consumption. In this application the software is so simple that I would have expected them just to use the lowest clock speed if that is an option.

I ate the VERY out of date blue cheese with crackers, washed down with some rum as a precaution. No ill effects, but it was the strongest blue cheese I've ever eaten.

Things with lithium cells are better kept out of direct sunlight. It's a cell killer. Makes them puff up. You can get cigarette lighter socket ozone generators, but look for listings that specifically show the full circuit board inside as there are many fakes with just a blue LED.

A printed case may allow for more creative ways to get airflow through it as well?

Buy from Aliexpress or pinch their search terms to find it elsewhere: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000804786439.html

Cool. I have one of those for the car. Glad to know it works and isn't a "placebo". Thanks!

would is work for a bed room or small home office to get rid of fart smells or what would you recoment

About $11 including tax from a US (in theory) shipper. Link from @Chris Muncy.

Roland Roberts

If it did, it would only be the top layer of the food. And i imagine most containers and even fruit rind/skins will block the UVC and the ozone.

Jeremy Impson

Oh that is a neat one!

Michael Thompson

I don't know if this helps, but here is a US eBay listing for it: https://ebay.to/2MZVpNd

Not shipping to a lot of countries, including The Netherlands. In fact, all the ozonic purifiers are not shipped to The Netherlands from Ebay. Strange...

Hub Rijcks

I purchased one of these as an alternative to the popular USD$350 CPAP sanitizing machines. I put it, along with the CPAP hose and mask into a large zip lock bag. A couple hours later I remove the items and let them sit out. When I go to bed there’s a hint of fresh air.

Jeff LaHay

Great video, good laugh about the cheese part ;-) Question though. Isn't the standby current a result of using the internal timer? Or is the mcu really that efficient that it needs less than 1 uA to run its internal timer?

Paul Schuur

Soon we may be able to trust ebay listing. You seem to be hitting home runs recently with the purchases, but the big question remains..... stinky cheese- eat, bin or deodourise and eat later ? Please update us on the results of this experiment of great scientific importance to cheese lovers.

Can u use a18650 battery, and print a new case for accommodating the larger battery

Isn't this likely to oxidise all the food in your fridge? I would expect things to taste bland or go soft if you use it near foods.

The Tinkering Shed

Clive, do you have search terms on eBay for this?

Witold Witkowski

I used to have one of these in the car. The USB socket gave up though and the battery died after a hot summer. Tried to repair it but the operation of opening it up turned out to be rather destructive lol
