Saturday's stream. (With free whoosher.)

Possibly my worst abuse of 3D printing yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIwK45z3Mxk

The description of the video has an openscad file for making your very own 3D printed flame whoosher.  Not that I actually recommend it, as whooshers are very dangerous.

It would be good to know if there's much standardisation between budget-store toilet air fresheners.  The base on this one is about 25mm or 1" wide, and that's what the whoosher is based on.

I found a slightly different type of the resistor substitution wheel on eBay a year or two back. Not as convenient as the one you showed (this one uses pin jumpers). I've linked a similar one here https://ebay.us/O7KPC3

Could you please provide a link to your 'DIY slot machine' which you mentioned last night?

The introduction of Ralph swiftly made up for the non-correcting reduction in picture quality.

I love that photo! Just know that we are filled with the same joy that you appear to be! That being said you do have an ointment or balm handy in case of need?

Michael Thompson

I did. Seemed the only reasonable thing to do. Their diagnosis should be seen in that context. Maybe it has a doctors-only meaning but I don't care, I learned my lesson! (No huffing)

Mike Page

Awkward. Did you tell them what you'd done? I'll not be igniting poppers. I don't have any to ignite.

Big Clive

I didn't ingest liquid but like I said got a bit carried away with the inhalation. The doctors said "hyper-reactive airways" - make of that what you will. It seems to have triggered something like COVID leading to a lung infection. I was only in overnight but the taxi to get home was £30!! Anyway. Flames - yes / no ?

Mike Page

I've already updated my 3D printing script to the MKII version that allows you to specify the base size of your dollar-store air freshener unit and a custom candle diameter.

Big Clive

I built the “Airwick Flamethrower” on your web projects page a while back - unfortunately I did this while I was on some pretty heavy painkillers and after I completed it, i had a lot of wax all over my shins and I was missing a fair amount of leg hair!!! 🤣. To this day I have no memory of what happened, but the project works fantastically! 🤪

Photon Phil

I did buy poppers at the local market when I was younger. I don't think I ever sniffed it hard enough to get the desired result. Did you inhale liquid?

Big Clive

I don't suppose we'll ever get to see aerosolized poppers ignited? I'd never come across the stuff until I found an unopened bottle of Amsterdam Gold in my front garden (there's a story behind that). Well, I tried them and I liked them ... until I took it a bit far at the tail end of a bad cold and landed in A+E. And that was the end of that.

Mike Page

Just to clarify, Raid fly spray isn't flammable as I tested it out last week! However, I have discovered a very flammable hairspray called SP by Wella...now that is dangerous!!!

I've not. I'm not sure if I have that here. I'm being cautious to avoid sprays with excessive chlorinated solvents to avoid producing hazardous gasses.

Big Clive

I didn't get to watch all of the stream, so I'm wondering if Clive has tried SWITCH CLEANER spray?

Andrew Donaldson

Uh-oh. That wasn't an excimer lamp it was a CCFL. He also did the test with the lids on the dishes which would have blocked a lot of the UVC.

Big Clive

Not sure where to add this but electronupdate has done a video on testing UVC lamps with bacteria growing on agar-agar gel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVarNc9zTH0

Paul Hill

Cheers - order made. Now have to wait for them to arrive which is the worst part.

John Carr

Perfect thanks folks! Now... decisions decisions... I think I know what color, but diffused or clear? Ahh, diffused! Thanks Clive!

Michael Thompson

How many "incidents" involving the fire service will be logged in the name of science !

Keywords are 100pcs 5mm 1.5Hz https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=100pcs+5mm+1.5Hz&_sacat=0&_sop=15

Big Clive

Clive.....any chance of a link for those flashing leds? I'd love to try and re-create the project on a couple of breadboards. I can't trust my own searches cos I've gotten so much fake stuff so far from ebay. And with the current delays, I'd love to only have to order just once.

John Carr

Bloody hell - I think there''s a can of that here somewhere. The name is very familiar. Might have to try a whoosh test on it......when I sober up :D

John Carr

That reminds me, I found some rusty old fly spray called Big D, claims its meant to be extremely flammable.. 🙄 🔥 Do I dare.

Oooh

Also, I notice a distinct lack of cheap hairspray and cheap mens deodorant in the flame tests. As a child of Misperton youth, I wasted a lot of my parents toiletries making flame throwers.🔥🚒🔥

Time to take a trip to dollartree to see if I can find similar supplies. Clearly i need a whoosher.

Elliott Krimchansky

Time for the Big Clive Memorial fund...

If that thumbnail doesn't boost the viewing numbers, I don't know what will. I love it !

I think this is not going to end well. (Gets popcorn)
