The worst head torch yet.

There's economy and there's economy.  This crappy product took it a bit too far.

The worst head torch yet.

Comments

I had one of the original Petzl Tikka lights and the build quality was very poor. No PCB. Just stacked LEDs soldered together and a very unreliable switch that pressed a battery contact onto a resistor lead. The first Poundland knock-off was better than the real thing.

Big Clive

If a candle in a headtorch would be steampunk, would an actual fire strapped to your head be cavepunk?

Matt Tester

I expected worse actually, I was thinking it was 1 LED and a light pipe to mimic 5. I have the real Petzl that this is based on (which I think is a bit crap anyway) and that housing is a really nasty copy.

Matt Tester

Nuke it from orbit. -it's the only way to be sure.

Michael Thompson

I can't even remember where I bought it from. It might have been One Below.

Big Clive

Save the elastic and strap a whoosher to your head.

Jim

Agreed there was 5 so the packaging wasn't misrepresenting that fact.

Charles Bruckner

Maybe the modular lens part can be swapped for a blue lens part and then it can be a Viral Killer UV head torch ! They could charge much more for that !!

Robert

With the right type of incandescent bulb they could save half a penny each by omitting the resistor.

Lostngone

I was thinking it was only going to be one or two LEDs defused to look like 5

Lostngone

Why did they even bother? It is just a total waste of everything.

Mike Hughes

OMFG! What pure crap. I bet the plastic is even of poor quality. From what I can see, it looks like those LEDs are old style, probably from some old stock they had lying around.

Rocco Rizzo

Next up... Same format, but with a non-replaceable battery running an incandescent bulb behind a fake row of LEDs...

Scott Miller

Where can I buy one? Do you have links?

Gadgetman

Yes, but that would cost you more than £1 in time and plasters. This is an exercise in pure economics FWIW.

Mike Page

Yeah, but you can get a decent one for that too.

Big Clive

2 teardown in one night, I feel spoiled !

Wow! I’d rather hot glue an 18650 & LED to my forehead than rely on that POS in a pinch

Jim

That is remarkable. Wow even the flash on the plastic switch actuator. Spared almost every expense

Michael Thompson

Headtorches: the Dandong edition. TBF I've seen soldering that crap from Shenzhen. At the minimum wage, manual soldering was economical. Recently there is a shift towards more automation. It's quite amazing, an Industrial Revolution at 10x speed!

Wire in front of LED ... Hope the don't manufacture medical eequipment - AQA 0.005%.... Made in?

Yay! Nothing like a 2AM Clive vid. to keep me entertained while debugging this XHP70.2!

Chewie

No doubt leads back to some modern slavery somewhere along the manufacturing process

What was the cost. 1£?
