And demonetised....

After a human review of my public service video on the UVLEN scam it was decided to make the video unsuited for most advertisers as it fell into the category of:-

Focus on accidents, pranks or stunts that involve health risks, like drinking or eating non-edibles; or discussions of trending videos that show this type of content

And this is why Patreon support and the backup platform of LBRY are so important for technical YouTubers.

Dude! Dichroic-diffracting fused silica amorphous. You can't just use any old fused silica or it wouldn't work.

Big Clive

Stupid YouTube!!!

Zane Revai

Why did it feel like I was reading an AvE transcript when I saw that title? ! Maybe because he says that within 30 seconds of so many videos.

Advertisers only want the most banal of content; anything slightly contentious they get worried it might damage their brand. And they're being driven by society's expectations. I'm not sure there's actually a simple answer, because there is certainly a lot of objectionable content out there that deserves to get stomped on and a brand would quite legitimately not want to be associated with it, even tangentially. I think the amount of content YouTube has to process is half the problem. People can individually make calls on single videos fairly sensibly. When you need to process thousands of hours of videos a day, it's somewhat more difficult and why YouTube relies heavily on automatic systems.

Chris Crowther

I'll send some messages within the product support team, see what I can do.

You aren't the only one talking about this fine product...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gtk6Jor2tI

If a human really did review this under humane conditions, I would interpret this as YT supporting UVLEN and COVID scams in general. But really if a human actually did review this, they probably misunderstood you and thought it was a supporting video. These people probably have kpi's or targets they have to reach, and so are motivated to 'review' quickly.

BangDroid

I got a video blocked because it violated their terms and conditions. It was a nature cam in a birds nest in a cavity in my house FFS. I filled in the dispute thing and basically politely called them stupid idiots. LOL They removed the block..... :)

Simon Leah

I've just found & followed you on LBRY. It's still bumpy 'round the edges but, I am Very glad to see you've got a presence there. I have a suspicion that as time goes on we'll be using LBRY more & more in order to keep having any sort of freedom. That's unfortunate to keep seeing YT's continuing changes towards curtailing content.. Especially when they seem to freely allow horribly offensive content and practically promote it at times. *shivers

Myrddin R Emrys

Bazar , you were doing the public a service by letting them know it’s fake . I doubt a human did check it . Youtube is so up its own tube some times .

I'll bet if UVLEN puts out a video on their fake product YT won't take it down. Absurd. I suggest you do a product comparison video that shows your invention matches the usefulness of the UVLEN sanitizer..

What the actual fuck? So a video informing people about a scam which if they believe it will potentially put their health at risk falls into the category of "stunts that involve health risks"... If I were a cynic I'd say that UVLEN just purchased a bunch of advertising from YouTube...

Jrandom Bob

Let us gather the pitchforks and storm the YouTube Castle! Such nonsense, Clive, I'm sorry to hear about this. What can we do? Anything? Go and promote it more as a PSA? Get more views? I'll be over here sharpening my pitchfork... ;)

Dont see the logic here, and sorry to hear about this.

I call bullshit on the idea that they did a human review within 20 minutes of that video being made public.

I agree that there is a 99% chance that this is quackery but if we ignore the bull doodoo explanation then it doesn't actually break the laws of physics (reference SHG in non-linear materials as mentioned in the YT comments). However, current SHG technology is not practical for this application hence the likelihood of this being a scam. But... wouldn't it be worth testing the actual product just in case of the 1% chance that they have made a real breakthrough in material/optical engineering?

The health risks being if you eat the filter? Or if you're deluded into thinking the thing has some kind of health benefit? (in which case... homeopathy videos are all over youtube WTF)

Moz in Oz

They only care about making money, YT are wankers

Richard Boyce

Do you still get revenue if viewed by YouTube Premium Subscribers like myself?

Christopher Smith

Hey Clive, watching the live stream right now and and wanted to let you know that you have finally nailed the lighting. It looks fantastic. Also, you and I have the same bald pattern as I do lol.

Chris Muncy

Okay, so actually educating and warning people of scams that very well COULD hurt someone is the same as eating Tide Pods according to YouTube "Humans". WTF?

Brooks Andersen

We all watched as network, and then cable TV, devolved into 24-hr "reality tv" -- I suppose we shouldn't be surprised now that YouTube (and Google) is turning into the same.

Gregor Kildow

what the actual Foxtrot? the "Human" obviously didnt watch teh video because you explained it perfectly well for anyone with more than single digit IQ to understand that you are exposing an obvious scam.

Palerider1942

I really don't understand why they did it.

Neil Tonks

Sorry Google - even you can't change the laws of physics!

Mark Gray

Well that stirred the Patreon hornets 🐝 including myself, YT can eat a d*ck!!

Mike Wynne

For those who don't follow Thunderfoot check out some of his busted videos on YT. Most recently a device called Zorb that protects from 5G. He explains a lot of science as he exposes frauds

Also even though unlisted is it OK to share or does GOOGLE ALGO penalise you for excess views on an unlisted video that has already been flagged by them ?

Robert

What is LBRY ?

Robert

Predictably ridiculous. Prediculous, if you will. Eejits.

Matt Tester

Hrm. Well, Roscolux has different names than Lee for color filters, but here's some fun that would anger the jerks at Googletube. http://randomer.net/stuff/blue.jpg

Martel DuVigneaud

Calling it a "human review" is an overstatement, I'd say, a monkey review.

horrovac

How is a protecting the public video unsuitable? Or was the reviewer too stupid to recognize that the "use a gel over your flashlight to make your own" was satire?

Pittsburgh Flip

If a human did review this video (which I still strongly suspect they did not, whatever google says), they obviously lacked the technical expertise to judge it on the merits. It's a real problem with debunking or scam warning videos.

Unfortunately “social” media has contributed negatively to the net sum of human intelligence. I thought I’d be annoyed about signing off from Facebook during trump and covid, but it’s been nothing but great for my mental health.

The Griffiths Family

Was this video considered a prank because of the blue filter on your phone? Otherwise I don’t understand which of these reasons they’ve chosen.

Jim

Happy to support you on Patreon for exactly this reason! No doubt the scammers complained on YouTube about losing them customers to fleece.

The Griffiths Family

Yeah the fused silica lobby got to them. Assholes.

Michael Thompson

Oh come on Clive... You must have expected this when you challenged the accepted science of Fused Silica Amorphous which lets far-UVC light straight trough. You should be encouraging humanity for a healthier environment. This is clearly not a scam.

Steve Brace

At least Patreon enables us to give YouTube the correct response to this - 🖕🏻 🖕🏻 🖕🏻 🖕🏻 🖕🏻 😀

Jamie Whitehorn

WTF YouTube

BiggieJohn

FFS. Farcical.

Stuart Ashen

No. Patreon saves the day. No association with YT whatsoever.

Mike Cowen

This is how people with truthful information end up getting shut down....because advertiser's threaten the radio station or broadcaster or whatever and that person gets removed. Glad to support not just the fun stuff but also videos like this too👍

LANDLINEMAN.com

Certainly things seem to keep getting more absurd rather than better, but Google bought YouTube in 2006.

Jason Brinkerhoff

This does not affect Patreon or does it. I support you on Patreon, Big Clive so when/if YouTube pulls this crap, you still get paid. Am I wrong? Keep pushing, Clive. My wife and I love your content.

Apparently the world can't take the truth anymore.

NightshadeLenar

I wonder if UVLEN has submitted a banner or video ad with YouTube as part of an ad campaign in time for the release date and this video was auto flagged as a direct attack on an advertiser and demonetized to avoid any awkwardly served ads?

WizardTim

Seems none of my YouTube subs are safe. It doesn't seem to matter if it's Big Clive, Thunderfoot, Drachinifel or Forgotten Weapons they all get screwed over somehow. Meanwhile all the stupid drivel is promoted.

Matthew Halfpenny

Senseless decision. Who viewed and categorised the content ? It stinks of idiocy, unfounded science must be challenged.

Can't risk an advertiser's feels when people simply tell the facts about scams, eh?

Leak

I've got no sympathy for the scammers that are being rightly called out. Keep the video up on YouTube as it is of public interest. I will still keep backing you on Patreon Clive.

Now that's just an insult to monkeys everywhere.

I have no words..... Need to start posting flat earther videos ......

Chris Muncy

Whiskey Tango Alpha Foxtrot!? I don't know how you maintain your sanity. Have a Dark and Stormy?

Should we call it human review or monkey review?

elias

One more reason to keep supporting you, and other creators we like. I am glad we have this platform to be able to do so.

Andreas

Leave it up, call out these scammers.

Gunplumber

WTAF! Youtube has slowly become more and more of a joke since it was bought.
