LED matrix PCBs are on their way.
Added 2020-06-22 04:00:58 +0000 UTCI've now sent out about 35 of the LED matrix PCBs.
If you didn't receive a message about them then it's not too late as I will be randomly sending out some more, and probably other PCBs too.
Everyone responded to their message this time, which is good. The PCBs posted to the UK have already started arriving, but the ones sent to Australia, New Zealand, Germany, America, Holland and other countries may take at least a week, and probably longer due to the current global pandemic.
If you've already been notified, then your PCB is on its way. Now would be a good time to buy a pack of 220 ohm resistors and a selection of LEDs.
A good choice of resistor value for most LEDs is 220 ohm - quarter watt.
The diffused LEDs are least intrusive and provide a much softer effect.
Keywords to find the LEDs are:-
100pcs (finds the listings for bags of 100)
5mm
diffused
LEDs
RGB slow (for the slow self colour changing ones)
RGB fast (for the pulsing colour changing ones)
1.5Hz (for the flashing ones)
You can use a mixture of LEDs as each has its own resistor.

My LEDs and resistors have finally arrived :) Time to get soldering.
2020-07-06 11:46:57 +0000 UTCWill do, I have a frame on the way for mounting and then Ill do a finished project vid. Frame is still several days out, here is just the board running for a few minutes. https://vimeo.com/434910110

2020-07-02 20:56:35 +0000 UTCPut a video up 👍
2020-07-02 20:51:22 +0000 UTCMine arrived Saturday and Ive just finished it with slow changing LEDs. It is a very nice result indeed!

2020-06-29 06:41:54 +0000 UTCIt has occurred to me that I could probably have asked someone to help out with the soldering, but I have too much stuff already so perhaps as well!

2020-06-26 19:04:16 +0000 UTCThumbs up for some kits to work on!
2020-06-26 18:48:55 +0000 UTCSkip to 14:45 to see that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4d-Nk955JE

2020-06-26 00:20:48 +0000 UTCHas anyone tried it with slow changing RGB leds?
Kevin Hardisty
2020-06-25 19:55:52 +0000 UTCYep, I'd buy most of Clive's design's,hard to get good kits these days
2020-06-24 21:34:56 +0000 UTCThe gerber files (and/or the Sprint Layout file) would be good (the boards could then be customised), but that means you'd likely get no income from the PCBs. Is there a way to have the PCB maker send the boards out and also pay commission on the sale?
Ian Harris
2020-06-24 10:25:18 +0000 UTCOr if you sort the giant blinking board out, I'm your man!
Matthew Dickey
2020-06-23 22:07:19 +0000 UTCI'm hoping to sort something out for getting them shipped directly from China.
Big Clive
2020-06-23 22:03:34 +0000 UTCToo late for this? Can we buy them off your website?
Matthew Dickey
2020-06-23 21:52:13 +0000 UTCIt looks like a fun project. I thing everyone should take a video of their working finished product and post it to YT then post a link to their video so we can see em
2020-06-23 21:10:47 +0000 UTCI'm investigating that. I may end up putting the zipped gerber files on my website.
Big Clive
2020-06-23 20:35:27 +0000 UTCDarn. I tried the PCB in a few others and they all fitted.
Big Clive
2020-06-23 20:28:39 +0000 UTCAlready been done in a video I think. Was quite "vigorous".
Big Clive
2020-06-23 20:23:25 +0000 UTCHi Clive, are you making the files available for those of us who didn't get a message, so we can make up our own boards or to send to the board makers? I would definitely like to make one or two up, as they are pretty cool.
Mike Hughes
2020-06-23 10:43:12 +0000 UTCDon't want to brag, but I got mine. Thought about buying a frame, but then thought I could probably print one. It would then be a perfect fit and could then include some extra space for extra LED wizardry.
Neil Tonks
2020-06-23 07:11:28 +0000 UTCAs far as I'm aware, although that option is available on patreon, BC doesn't use it. We are all treated equally. I may be wrong and I'm sure someone will, if necessary correct me.
Neil Tonks
2020-06-23 07:08:38 +0000 UTCBummer, I guess I was not chosen for this batch of fun! Maybe next time! 😉
Zane Revai
2020-06-23 04:30:22 +0000 UTCI'm definitely interested in this project, and I'm willing to purchase one of my name isn't drawn. Looking forward to seeing them up for sale!
2020-06-23 01:27:20 +0000 UTCOh, if we only could. It would be so much cheaper getting components. lol
Nani Isobel
2020-06-23 00:39:00 +0000 UTCHi Clive, I'm in the US so I know shipping would be slow. I have the LEDs and resistors. If you are sending them over here I would like a board. Edit: I just saw home many people want them. I can order it locally so don't send me one.
2020-06-23 00:08:09 +0000 UTCOMG OMG OMG Shit... resistors!
Michael Thompson
2020-06-22 23:39:52 +0000 UTCGood evening Clive , if you have any boards left I would like , but happy to wait until you have some for sale . As I want to add one to my z80 computer project case to give the retro look . Thanks paul
2020-06-22 22:24:59 +0000 UTCI didn't get a message, is there a minimum tier level or something on Patreon to qualify?
Simon Howroyd
2020-06-22 22:06:32 +0000 UTCI've found the Poundland 6x4 photo frames are just a bit too small for the PCB to fit in.
2020-06-22 21:19:37 +0000 UTC👍keep on Clive. This is great stuff
Cerity
2020-06-22 19:37:44 +0000 UTCI missed it lol, maybe next time, keep up the great content clive.

2020-06-22 18:24:18 +0000 UTCFun stuff and thanks for the chance but all that international postage has got to be expensive.
Bill Kerr
2020-06-22 16:05:52 +0000 UTCPlease please please ! PLEASE! Do you take food based bribes? I can provide excellent Devon Pasties, clotted cream or scones

2020-06-22 14:32:47 +0000 UTCClive, are the PCB files up on your site if I want to get JL PCB to knock some up? I found a stash of flashing LED's I got in 2005 which should be put to use.
Anton
2020-06-22 14:08:09 +0000 UTCConsider my interest registered!
Dan Craggs
2020-06-22 14:02:49 +0000 UTCI would be happy with just the gerber files so I can get my own PC board made Clive.
Chris Muncy
2020-06-22 13:39:12 +0000 UTCHere's hoping I might could get in on the next round. :)
Benjamin Hall
2020-06-22 13:28:13 +0000 UTCMy room is looking quite sparse, so I'd really appreciate one of these boards, if I'm not too late.
2020-06-22 13:19:19 +0000 UTCIf this helps judge the costs here what I got from ebay.co.uk 1000pcs SMD Chip Resistor, 220 Ohm 1/4W 1206 Fixed Resistors, 1% Tolerance 5.41GBP 1000Pcs Metal Film Resistor 1/4W Watt 220 Ohm 220Ohm 0.25W 220R 1% Ic 5.24GBP [100pcs RGB Flashing,5mm LED,100 PCS,RGB Slow Flashing= 3.59GBP [100pcs,Blue, Candle Light Flicker] 5.95GBP

2020-06-22 13:08:28 +0000 UTCI ordered both types of resistors in packs of 1000s; they were not much more expensive. Blue slow flashing diffused were more of a problem to find. Clear slow flash RGB are easy to get; a UK seller to send them in a couple of days. I might try altering the surface of the clear LED rather than a filter of tracing paper / plastic drafting paper. I was using ebay.co.uk In the past I have used Permanent Marker to block excessive blinding LED on alarm clocks, TVs and remotes. Thanks for sending them out to us lucky few, much appreciated John
John Harrison
2020-06-22 13:00:12 +0000 UTCI never got an email so I must have missed out on the surface mount version. Could you send the gerbers and I can make an isolation cut version on my little cnc mill but I might need to tweak the files a bit as my current stock of fr4 are 150 x100 boards (chinese specials) so no idea how thick the copper is untill I cut one. If I can get the Wiley fox set up again I might record the process. fill it with slow glow rgb 5mm led`s
2020-06-22 12:55:27 +0000 UTCI would love to have a couple. I will be happy to pay for them as well. And no rush.
Charles Bruckner
2020-06-22 12:02:33 +0000 UTCI’d love one! Haven’t done a kit for years!! Out here in sunny perth, west aussie, having weather like uk at the moment though.
2020-06-22 11:17:58 +0000 UTCAs with many others - Will these be available to purchase at some point from the shop? Would it be possible for you to release the schematics a well (I'd be very interested to scale this up to a 1/2u server rack faceplate size to jazz up some of my server infrastructure. (Just so when people walk past, it looks like it's doing something)

2020-06-22 11:08:47 +0000 UTCI would love one to get back into doing projects. With a tiny human in my life now, it's hard to find time between work and changing nappies
2020-06-22 10:55:54 +0000 UTCThat would be sweet
btSchmieds
2020-06-22 10:40:12 +0000 UTCCount me in :)
2020-06-22 10:39:07 +0000 UTCMissed getting one last time, throwing my name it the hat again. Cheers!
2020-06-22 10:23:03 +0000 UTCOooh, I missed this the first time round and didn't get my name in 😕 but if there's more available I'd definitely like one 😁
2020-06-22 10:05:41 +0000 UTCI would love one.
2020-06-22 09:25:35 +0000 UTCWould love one of the pcbs if you get any more think it looks super cool retro 😊
2020-06-22 08:52:01 +0000 UTCYou'll need to do the search on ebay.com (I'm in the UK and a search on ebay.co.uk did not find the LEDs). The blue 1.5Hz are item 381519586008 at this time and the same dealer also has RGB LEDs that look like they'll work.
Ian Harris
2020-06-22 08:24:02 +0000 UTCYeah, how do we order?
Phr3d13
2020-06-22 08:02:06 +0000 UTC've gotta replace my soldering iron first I only had a little one now it's dead :( I might get my self a soldering station not sure yet tho lol
2020-06-22 06:57:22 +0000 UTCI'd also like to order one of these if possible, it looks great in the background of the live stream. Cheers.
2020-06-22 06:51:50 +0000 UTCI wonder how it would look with the flicking candle "flame" LEDs.
Roland Roberts
2020-06-22 06:15:33 +0000 UTCI’d like to order a PCB as well.
2020-06-22 06:15:04 +0000 UTCIf it's not too late I'd like one of these PCBs please. If it is too late then perhaps you can make the gerber file available so we can order our own.
2020-06-22 06:01:19 +0000 UTCWas wondering the same
2020-06-22 05:58:05 +0000 UTCHi Clive, can we still order the pcb's or too late?
Mike Wynne
2020-06-22 05:57:15 +0000 UTCLEDs and resistors ordered! It’s a race to see which I get first
2020-06-22 05:46:35 +0000 UTCWas wondering the same!
2020-06-22 05:13:36 +0000 UTCMaybe a mini redo of that Clive's Arcade sign on a PCB he showed us a while back with a micro of some flavor. I'd hang that up on the wall.
2020-06-22 04:43:02 +0000 UTCHow do we get in touch if we're wanting one of these? What's the shipping costs like?
Randi Tastix
2020-06-22 04:35:08 +0000 UTCThank you again Clive. I really look forward to seeing it. Thank you for the prepurchase suggestions.. maybe one of those infinity mirrors with LEDs may be a future project, unfortunately that would be at least a multi piece board...that is something I should try...big thing in the early 80s 😜
Vaughn B.
2020-06-22 04:32:37 +0000 UTCOh, and the components, too.
NightshadeLenar
2020-06-22 04:32:20 +0000 UTCIf only i had a TS-80 iron.. 10AH powerbank at hand, but no iron or solder.
