Airwick 2020. Full of technical surprises.

This must be the first time I've seen a 1V microcontroller implemented in this style.

This very common and totally mass produced air freshener (!) unit is a piece of art inside.

Mass produced items like these are an intriguing puzzle of penny pinching to create maximum results from the minimum components.

The grey plastic interior has given me the urge to just design and 3D print a mini futuristic cityscape.

Sounds like a turtle fornicating when it operates.

Used to be able to get orange-based cleaning products in the UK. Not sure if they still exist or they're related.

Mark Gray

I think the ones of these that I have are really early ones and open in a completely different (and ultimately flawed) way. The newer ones seem to be a bit more robust, even if they are built down to a price.

Mark Gray

Will it run from a 1.2V rechargable NiMH or does it need a proper alkaline?

Simon Howroyd

I thought the same, the mould for the grey piece must be very impressive

Show's how long it is since I bought one of these then, mine you opened the front to change the smelly and the batteries. I did buy a small version about ten years ago that took a single battery but the smelly was about the size of a disposable vape unit.

Keith Pawson

The original unit used two cells. I would test this one for run duration, but that would involve filling the house with aroma chemicals.

Beautiful moulding. Amazing what the Solidworks mentality has achieved. At every step there will have been folk saying "we don't need that wang-fang software" but those wangfangs lead to the future. And here we are.

I think odd numbers of batteries are just wrong. But then I have a problem with odd numbers in general unless they are interesting some other way.

Mike Page

Great video again Clive. On the batteries situation, I think it's not really cost saving, I reckon it's that customers like me got fed up of replacing three batteries, everyone has the odd battery lying around. 🤪😀

Keith Pawson

Awesome I need a new Clive video. I cannot now nor will I ever quite get the hang of Thursdays... Thanks Hawaii Clive Oh

Michael Thompson

Crazy. I happened to pick one of these up last night completely by coincidence. Must be those darn 5G rays brainwashing my subconscious

Earl Plotner

No, it has actually happened. Our daughter, who works for the NHS sent us a PDF being sent to their staff with a picture of the inside of a car door with fire damage. I reckon that if the temp in the car gets hot enough to vapourise some of the sanitiser, the motors used to unlock the doors, or open the windows could cause a spark to ignite it.

Stuart

On the basis that the autoignition temperature of ethanol is over 365C and isopropanol is 399C, I'd expect there to be much more significant issues in a car before that happened. It sounds like the usual doom-merchants inventing unlikely scenarios.

Big Clive

They are saying not to leave hand sanitizers in ones car, as they could burst into flames!

Andrew Donaldson

Superb device

That injection molding is very impressive, probably the most impressive part of the unit. But... will there be a part 2 converting it to Whoosh mode?

Chris Muncy

That moulding is amazing! You have saved me the job of taking mine to bits, much to my wife's relief!

To eliminate nasty odours and leave a nice smell instead, I much prefer the eco friendly products from Aware Environmental in Australia, I don't know if you can get them in the UK. I swear by the Orange Power range of sprays. 100% renewable and organic and what not, they actually smell of real orange, lemon etc. No electronics involved, but much nicer smell and more efficient at removing stink. No affiliation, just a very happy customer.
