Mini stage-themed lights. (They're not great.)

These work, but could do with a bit of improvement.  They do have scope as a project case for your own design though.

Mini stage-themed lights. (They're not great.)

Just popped one open ... there's an extra diode from mains in leading to a potential divider hidden in the isolation space under the optoisolator, going to an anonymous 8 pin (DIP) micro.

Andy Brown

Many of the older mains powered colour change lights used the mains frequency for timing so they all stayed in sync.

Big Clive

I've had 4 of the smaller ones with slow fade RGB LEDs for a couple of years. Described as "pencil beam" they were the same messy splash as yours, but 3 different shapes for the R, G and B. Interesting thing is that they are synchronised to the mains, so even after weeks they all still project the same colour.

Quite big for a keychain, but screwed to a hard hat they could be quite funny.

Big Clive

The price would hopefully be a clue.

Big Clive

Can we have a flame test on the case please Clive? This looks like the ideal product for testing your home fire readiness plan!

Hmm, two cylinders and a fork, I’ll have to try openscad someday. The China cabinet needs a couple of these for the miniature Beatles concert within. I’d buy a couple but I just spent my money on cheap 12 volt power supplies thanks to Andreas’ last Patreon vid.

Jim

I think I would convert them to USB power and ditch the dropper. They look like they have potential of some kind. They look like a novelty gift you would give your favorite lighting engineer to use as a keychain or something.

Wow they look like a pretend lights, oh wait in a way perhaps they are

The cylindrical one is utter rubbish. The oval one isn't too shabby all up actually as a wash light, the wide beam looked pretty consistent.

Anton

Lord above, they are tiny! Shocking seeing that cable not fixed in better on the cylindrical unit.

Hmmmm generiky chips!

William Nimmo

I would call it pico light because small or mini are way to generous for what it is.

Frank

more shit hot off the chinese boat. The image makes it look like a huge ass 100w+ light but all you get is a 1w 2 inch let down. I wonder just how many people have been fooled by the picture and bought them & have been totally gutted once that little thing arrives ??.

Oh yeah checking this out when I get home after work
