Full length Jugee battery video.

This is the full length video with frustrating case opening that ended up needing a Dremel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dakm4ra8Xv0

The short version of this video is a good demonstration of how much easier it is to make a video after the original live one has been made.

It came with them, but you do get a wide range of similar plastic battery holders on eBay.

Big Clive

Those "Tupperware" containers for the batteries is a good idea. Where did you get them from?

Pierre

Not sure about an AAA size one. The switching converter inside could also introduce noise.

Big Clive

I have found that makes batteries like these to be excellent for quality small torches with reliable circuitry of their own. They last a long time and are consistent. Mind you not these specifically, but similar.

Could this be the future for radio mic batteries in theatre? Is there a AAA sized version?

I can't decide long or short version. During the day probably the short one is better when waiting for something like a build to finish. At night after my brain has melted from work and the vodka-lemonade is out, the long one is definitely better.

In a smart charger it would see the high voltage and just end the charge instantly. In a dumb charger if it had a high enough open circuit voltage it might at least make some effort to charge it.

Big Clive

What would happen if you put a Jugee battery in a NiMH/NiCad charger? Some people think you can charge any battery in any charger!

Gadgetman

I just found this review (test) that was uploaded almost 2 1/2 years ago. I have NO idea what he meant by the title of his video: https://youtu.be/GJmmI2WFoW8

There is also a Jugee charger that only holds 2 batteries - this one plugs directly into a USB socket without the need for a cable.

Gadgetman

Based on Clive being able to pass current into the cell just hooking it up to 5V, it would appear so, although any other cell put into that charger and BANG! So... yeah label it with big "USE ONLY FOR_____" stickers.

Dustin

Excellent!I loved taking that journey with you!

Michael Thompson

I've looked at some of these on ebay and the way they advertise these at 3000mWh is quite interesting, they seem really honest too with the 5V in voltage shown on the packaging. Would you really need their charger or could you just re-wire an old AA charger for 5V? Assuming here you know not to plug Ni-MH cells in.

Matt Tester

So basically they have a properly implemented version of a "Batterizer" boost circuit?

The other concern is if you use this for audio equipment, if the buck circuit frequency will come through the audio, like an audible screech. Matt over at TechMoan has run into that phenomenon with inverters, and many many Amazon reviews of the rechargeable D cells complain about the same. Not to mention that buck circuit is, all the time, leaching some quiescent current that will self-drain over time.

Dustin

I foresee an explosion hazard if the whole thing is so tightly potted and welded shut. Should that pouch get cranky, it has NOWHERE to expand!

Dustin

If that is a special charge/buck chip, my guess it needs to be the full 5 so that it can get to the full 4.2 on the internal cell

Dustin

Can you charge these with 14500 lithium cell charger, or do you need whole 5 volts for charging?

Ossi K

I reckon you'd get a much longer run time from these too.

Big Clive

Do you mean the different chemistries or the fact it varies from 4.2V fully charged to about 3V when fully discharged?

Big Clive

I've seen those. They remind me of a really neat NiMh cell that had the outer ring too. It charged the cell via the outer ring with a pressure switch that disconnected the charging current as soon as the charge was complete and bubbles started forming on the electrodes. That meant it could be charged at very high current and would stop charging the instant it was full.

Big Clive

Just found at random: https://www.buyabattery.co.uk/rechargeable-batteries/rechargeable-9v-batteries.html I'm sure Clive has taken one of these apart in a previous vid. Not a Jugee though.

There's some by YGJ which look very similar to these, and some by EBL which have a micro-USB charging port on the cell itself. https://www.amazon.co.uk/YGJ-Rechargeable-lithium-battery-batteries/dp/B07YZCFF1G/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/EBL-AA-Rechargeable-Batteries-Capacity-Black/dp/B0828GN5RL/

A great Idea for the likes of a flashgun, which just eats alkaline batteries. They would pay for themselves very quickly.

Mike Hughes

Is there a PP3 version of this ?

KENTLI CHU4 USB Charger with 4 x 1.5v 3000mWh AA lithium li-polymer rechargeable battery

There seems to be another make of these on Amazon UK.

It was also very satisfying that you dremeld the sh*t out it and decapitated it perfectly for the given circumstances

just_noXi

I enjoyed the long version much more. The suprise of the very well built and almost tamper proof body was real. 😄

just_noXi

Li ion can have two voltages?

Cerity

I had visions of you Dremelling away when suddenly the metal can gets really hot... I'm glad you did this Clive, I've got a few of these cells branded "Kentli" they're so useful (and expensive) I can't bring myself to sacrifice one to curiosity. The Kentli cells have an outer ring surrounding the +ve pip that reads 3.6ish volts, this is for charging. The pip itself reads 1.5ish.
