Building the prototype disko-shart 4.

If the video looks a bit strange it's because the inclusion of a ridiculously short time lapse section (just three seconds) may have hobbled the whole video by causing it to be pre-compressed before YouTube finished the job.

I might upload a version without that 3 seconds timelapse (it was way too fast), just to see how it affects image quality.

I like it a lot. I think they should come out with LEDs like these, but with a dedicated constant current circuit built-in. I can tell them apart. The one with a constant current source, has a very smooth transitions between colors. I built one using 2x NPN + 220 and 10k resistors.

What was the modification that needed to be made to the v2 of the board?

Love this...great modification :)

The full light is cheap and comes with a glass lens and the PCB holders at the right positions. But you could make a really compact one with the PCB against the back and fixed lens on the front with the case designed for the focal length.

I'd also glue the board in if it was going to get bumped around.

It would be really dim with neons. Even a flicker flame neon candle wouldn't project a bright image.

Big Clive

Could it project a little neon lamp if you put it in there? Have little neon arcs on the wall

You may want to consider a small bit of hot melt glue between the capacitors and the board if you intend to move the lights around.

Isel still offers those frames. I checked and they're about $70.00 US.

I think time lapse are fine, the fine tuning can help. Maybe three seconds a bit to fast but we weren't going to miss much either way. maybe try 9 or 10 seconds . Good video Clive and good summary of the progression of the Disco Shart name. Such a cool effect, Do i really need to buy the chinese box? I have led lenses, 30 and 60 degrees but damn, 64 of them is beyond!

Very nice i like i bin messing with RGB LED,s i have ended up with 3mm 5mm and even got my hands on some 10mm i think of just mixing them all up on a board and see what happens any thanks for giving me sum ideas :D

That is amazing!! I've loved the journey but I had no interest in duplicating this until now. The video quality looks fine to me, btw, although I'm likely not as discerning about video compression as you are.

Oh my, that is lovely! I might have to order some clear slow color changers

I like the beams coming out, using a smoke machine, that would be the biz. :) Those slow LEDs were a good choice.

Those RGB LEDs also look well balanced. I tried getting RGB LEDs from a few different Chinese sellers on eBay and so far had no luck finding a pack with balanced colours. The green is always fierce compared to the red or blue, regardless of the resistor choice. One set also only cycled between red, green and blue and no other colour.

Really cool effect, so much nicer than the strobing and flashing of the original light. I suppose you could create multiple circuit boards with the LEDs arranged to create a letter, and use multiple lights to spell out words to create a custom gobo type effect. Very cool.

That is pretty amazing, I am going to have to get one of those projectors now, as that's a fantastic effect. Nice one Big Clive!!

Mike Hughes

Wow, that's a fantastic effect!

I will savor this after work! Do what is needed i will savor regardless
