Food-o-cuting a hot dog.

Tonight's evening meal involved zapped hot dogs.

(There was also an ill-advised live hot dog zapping on the live stream.)

Oh...then just use the plastic forks! Much safer! :D

Michael Thompson

Where can I buy one? Do you have links?

Gadgetman

Oh ok. Lets not do that then.

Destruction of all adjacent electronic components - check. I'd have to do that with a splash guard.

Big Clive

Lower voltage though, so less current.

Big Clive

AC. Because metal would definitely contaminate the food with DC.

Big Clive

I've done it with four of them and they all split the full length.

Big Clive

It would, but there would be significant metal migration into the food at the electrode.

Big Clive

It burns clear at one of the electrodes.

Big Clive

And tasty. It's always a win to do something incredibly dangerous live. Just like at work.

Big Clive

With a small child. (He didn't actually stick the forks into her though.)

Big Clive

The general opinion was that on AC there would be no significant metal migration.

Big Clive

It would cause more metal migration into the food.

Big Clive

That was so cool and disgusting at the same time!

MarkM

What would 240 DC do? Would there be any noticeable difference if you added a rectifier?

My mouth is watering!

It's perfectly safe to do here in the States as we have 120v. (eek)

Actually looked tasty! The chromium contamination wasn’t a concern this time? (Wondering if you did a little science follow up to see whether it would actually shed it from the “forklectrodes”)

Matt Hessinger

Or don’t and sell in China off 240V unregulated

Cerity

Mr Wizard did this on Nickelodeon back in the 80s

David E. Blankenship

Looks like you've invented the world's lightest, most portable, energy efficient and easy to clean cooking appliance. Just a slight safety issue to solve and it's ready to market...

Seán Byrne

The live stream cooking wasn't ill advised, it was glorious.

Steven Raith

The frankfurter packaging saying "fine eating" made it for me. 😁

You're on the right avenue here, Brian. The sugar will almost certainly burn and it is not nearly as good of a conductor as salty or otherwise brined foods would be.

Ryan Coleman

Not nearly THAT much mustard, though...

Ryan Coleman

Also that's about three times as much mustard as I put on any food... but still a good choice. I usually do sriracha with my mustard for an extra level of zing.

Ryan Coleman

No ketchup. AMEN! Thank you, sir!

Ryan Coleman

American here. Can confirm. (at least for me, wife HATES mustard)

Dustin

Delicious on multiple levels

Michael Thompson

Will this method bake a trash cake in a cup ? Or would it only work on extra salty foods ( sugar might burn ) ?

Electrosporking?

Kadah

You could try sticking the fork in an onion, then you can have onions in your hot dog Clive

Jeremy Travis

I think food-o-cuting a citrus fruit would be interesting. Naturally sealed container. Check Wet conducty innards check Potential for hot acidic juice explosion. Check

GL_1_Code1_1A

Please... Can you try with a welding transformer? More amps. More I squared R. Maybe you need the volts too.

You gave it away in the live stream I was bummed...

Lostngone

Only Big Clive will discuss the power factor of a hot dog...

Moz in Oz

You released the magic smoke :(

Michael Dunn

Ah, but which tastes better, electrocution by AC or DC?

Charles

Love the Food-O-Cuting with the Forks 900 watts that is very cool Sir Love the "American" Mustard indeed Ive seen that brand in our Dollar Tree store! Like a Pound land I suppose.

William Nimmo

A shame it split, which saved you from having to cut it open to show us how evenly it had cooked.

Andrew Donaldson

I have to say, that was rather satisfying!

Derek Smith

Also, would it cook on DC? Molecular teardown please..... ;-)

What would happen if you left it going...? Carbon?
