Very neat minimalist solar flame effect light.

When you're used to seeing the complex arrays of LEDs in other flame effect lamps, this comes as a refreshing change.

It shows how you can achieve a decent effect with a low pin count microcontroller.  Or possibly even with no microcontroller at all.

Very neat minimalist solar flame effect light.

Those old ones are neon based, the flicker is the electric field around the electrodes exciting the gas and it flows.

I've got some torch style ones at home with a shorter wider board and more LEDs and a bigger control chip

My favorite so far was the Luminara flickering candle. I thought the coil driven reflector was a great simple effect, this is so much simpler though, they must make miniature candle flame bulbs like this. Now this makes me wonder how the old ones worked. I used to use the 110 volt flicker bulbs that had a piece of metal inside shaped like a spade.

Amazing how minimalist that thing is!

I've been shown a number of alcohol tricks, now I can't remember anything.

Clive, I noticed a sound at the very start of every video from you, kind of a "fumb", what is this?

Car body panel dent puller kits use hot glue and release with IPA (not the beer one) Found this link for anyone interested, https://www.thedrive.com/reviews/26866/best-dent-repair-kits Most dents I have need to push from the back, motorbike tanks, car doors etc. I believe they also use DRY ICE to contract the metal around the dent, not seen it done though.

Also I'm pretty sure I've seen one almost identical but as a lantern form factor in Lidl last week.

What does the empty C1 position do...?

Charleso

A very nice flame effect, one mounted each side of a gate post would look rather nice

Very nice little simple circuit, the isopropyl alcohol worked well. Good effect lamp.

A nice neat circuit. Which will have me reaching for my bottle of varnish to protect it from the elements.

Interesting. Fairly nice effect from minimal circuitry. I am going to have to remember the alcohol trick. Thanks for that!
