A Patreon live stream this evening?

I'm going to do a short notice Patreon stream this evening.

Let me know if you have any questions you'd like answered.

A Patreon live stream this evening?

Comments

I was looking via patreon en youtube live but nowhere the chat was visible or able to activate.

I've never really looked for that. I see less and less SRBP style PCBs over time.

Big Clive

I tend to solder at around 350C. Some of the soldering stations are not accurate in temperature display, so you may need to nudge the temperature up or down to find the ideal temperature for flowing the solder without being too hot.

Big Clive

Did you view the stream on YouTube? The chat is there and appears with the video a few hours after the end.

Big Clive

If you mean the captcha where it asks you to identify objects in tiny pictures then I've found that to be really annoying.

Big Clive

It does sound like either an improvised choke for suppression purposes or maybe a crude resistor to tame the mower.

Big Clive

Either the capacitor or the start/run switch that switches the capacitor out once running.

60 40 is full fat leaded :)

This was one of your best live streams....Thank you Clive

Full fat of lead?

3.47:57 I'm glad you didn't electrocute yourself immediately after the name drop as I would have got the blame, lol. Magic rubber shoes FTW.

Balls! I got the email about this stream but I thought it was Friday night so didn't look properly. Went out all day, came home, fell asleep and didn't even accidentally catch it. I much prefer the better clientele of the Patreon stream.

Have you tried the Polish CYnel full fat 60 40 solder from ebay ? I now use it as my go to brand :)

Component manufacturers have recommendations on the data sheets, soldering iron Mass and temperature is a different issue, The rule of thumb is the minimum temperature and duration to achieve the joint the better. Clive uses a 25 W Antex, I favor my 18 W Antex unless I need more heat :)

What is the most recent date stamp that you have seen on a SRBP PCB ?

What is the best temperature to do common PCB soldering?

Where is the chat

(Had a problem logging into Patreon today - looks like they changed something. Just mentioning.)

Clive a question for you,I am having a problem with the motor in my pressure washer, when I turn it on the motor just hums,if I flick it with a screwdriver it runs as normal, could it be the capacitor that is at fault?

Question: I took to bits a 24 volt, lead acid, cordless lawnmower after leaving it in the rain. I’ve replaced all the wiring as it burned Inside thoroughly. There is a coil of wire leading from the relay to the motor. It looks like someone wrapped a pound of ground wire around their hand. Is this a choke? Is it normal for motors to have a loose coil of wire feeding them? I got the mower for ten bucks at a garage sale, looked up the price and it’s over $400!

Jim

I’ve got one for you, I’ve just ordered a fairly large Tesla coil on a slow boat from China. Any tips on firstly safety and also some impressive stunts to pull to impress ones less technical friends

Can you tell us more about props you've made for TV etc. What shows were you involved in?

I would love to hear about your experience with 3D printing. Issues you have or have had and how you fixed those issues. I have just started 3D printing a few weeks ago (using OpenSCAD) so I could use some "fatherly" advice.

Zeedijk Mike

Can’t wait to see this afterwards!

Do you ever prototype anything on Breadboard then test it on Veroboard these days?

Andrew Donaldson

can you explain why when I frazzle my fingers on my soldering iron it smells like bacon? Obvs I mean Paws.

Whippet Gas

Please hack your current microwave to be "smart". I was thinking ESP32 with ESPHome software. Especially the tapping into existing circuit might be educational.

Hey Clive, I need to replace 30 year old green LEDs because they've dimmed so much with age. The LEDs give off a very pleasant warm green glow. I've tried replacing them with modern green LEDs that I have laying around, but they give off a noticeably vibrant, cold, and unnatural green. I'm assuming because they're actually recolored white or blue LEDs. Any suggestions of where to find LEDs more like the classic ones, or what to look for? Thanks!

Reasking my bonus question from last week, do you have any ideas for a low voltage fog machine, For use in a car. Thanks! And good job pronouncing my name last week.

Elliott Krimchansky

I second this! Plus more about your working career stuff, that's always interesting...

Nub

Missed last weekend's stream so nice catch-up opportunity. I'm assuming you saw Monday night's lightning show - that was quite something!

Mark Gray

I'm actually curious about your youtube carreer. Did you always browse through ebay for cheap chinese stuff to buy? You've once talked about the begining of your channel, but now that your first public video is exactly 13 years old (14.8.2007), how do you look back, what would you do differently? Can you tell us how many hours per week you approx. put into it?

Paul Paulson

What are your most favorite and least favorite "cheap ebay" electronic device you've taken apart?

Phr3d13

Hi Clive, Question for tonight, Can you explain how a Royer (?) circuit works please?

Mike Hughes

It's tonight- today is the 13th...

Mike Hughes

Aww man I missed it. :(

Michael Thompson

It would be cool to make your flashing LED panel onto a series pf flexible PCB's and line that archway in the background... If you made them with UV LED's it could be a decontamination portal!

Stuart Goggin

Update on your pinball machines?

Roy Eltham

Awesome.

AJTech369

Hi Clive what's the most unusual prop you have had to make for a film or TV show ?

Private Private

They are rubbish

Neil Tonks

Awesome, booked

Talk a bit about evaporative airconditioning. Especially those small eBay units.

Bas

Looking forward to it! Thanks Clive
