Fixing a colloidal silver generator.

Not just fixing a colloidal silver generator, but also making a slightly zappy mains voltage one.

If you search for colloidal silver on Google it's a bit of a wormhole through the world of real science and quackery.

Fixing a colloidal silver generator.

Comments

I remember watching on Oprah a guy who used this to excess and he actually turned blue like a smurf. It wasn’t just a blue tint he was BLUE.

Your Hot glue/HS combo is exactly how I terminate LED strips. Works well to provide insulation and strain relief. No opinion on colloidal silver.

I buy mine in ready made. I think the dose is 5ml up to 3 times a day. So a glass is overdoing it depending on the strength.

The application is controversial but it is the technical side we are interested in. I love the design of the direct mains version. A simpler and more energy efficient variant.

Frank

Not keen on colloidal silver drinks, it put my old lady teacher in hospital for a few days and was told off in no uncertan terms, "Never drink it again" she hasn't since. That was one glass a day.

Oh Andrew that sound very unplesant, I hope it clears up for good with the silver treatment.

Under direction of NHS nurses, I'm having to use silver infused pads placed under thick padded dressings on my open leg ulcers, in order to pull out any infection and impurities. Which after snapping my Achilles tendon some 20 years ago, is a relatively new technique, that appears to speed up the healing process of this annual reoccurring annoyance I suffer from in hot weather.

Spontaneous builds often yield the best results.

It was a spur of the moment build. In hindsight a 3D box would have been easy.

Big Clive

I'm surprised to didn't 3D print a box in which to pot everything.

I like the simplicity of the direct mains version. Even with an isolating transformer you could still get a tingle between the electrodes.

Big Clive

Any thoughts about using a little old-school step-down transformer to isolate the output?

Nani Isobel

I did try the clear version of the straight through Wago terminal, but it couldn't handle the size of the bigger electrode wires.

Big Clive

I do like a slightly dangerous build. I'm not convinced by this but for some reason I'm more keen on the idea of using solid silver cutlery.

Matt Tester

Lmao! It's one of those shitty $1 boost converter things from fleabay and even worse speaker terminals. I was actually contracted about 2 years ago, and used the better xlsemi boost units. The silver is a nice idea but I aint drinking the stuff. They people requesting the builds also drank "fossil sand" diotemacious earth stuff and thought that flouride in water was deadly. At least they paid me upfront, and the units worked! Clive, I love your banana plugs version! I used RCA sockets, found some machine pin ones that held the rods perfectly.

Anton

People will believe what people will believe. I'm here for the tech...and the chicks.

Michael Thompson

Wow that thing is shitty. Good thing it got Clived up.

Michael Thompson

Anti microbial doesn’t mean what you think it means... unless we’re talking inflammable being flammable. Nature knows no bounds, we are now trying to cultivate landfill digesters that can decompose plastic poly ethylene. Tommie Copper and the whole rest of them are all placebo same with silver in your clothing. Unless it’s actually thread, stuff comes off in 1 wash. No dryer needed.

Cerity

Further improvement suggestions, the fake Wago would make a good electrode holder and a 3D printed separator would help prevent shorts. I have a friend who applies this to his skin to help psoriasis, he says it does help to a degree but doesn't eradicate it.

The Tinkering Shed

They do get thinner and a matte finish. You can swap them to even the wear. They last a very long time.

Big Clive

Mr. Clive: What do the silver rods end up looking like after you've used them in this application for a while? Do they get thinner and thinner or shorter and shorter? Both? Pockmarked? A rough surface? Smooth? I'm tempted to order supplies and make one just to watch the metal vanish (I assume it does...) Thanks for making this, it was informative, and I do appreciate your caution and negative comments as to its use. I've seen photos of that gentleman who took too much of a home-made silver solution and now looks like Papa Smurf. Unfortunate, but also a bit funny... he did enjoy some talk-circuit notoriety and if one googles "silver Papa Smurf" you will get the right fellow.

It's a controversial area. I think I may add a warning to the video description that the safety of colloidal silver is unknown.

Big Clive

Yes. You can make colloidal copper and gold, but I'm not sure any of these is a good idea.

Big Clive

My fear with that stuff is it looks like a way to short circuit neurons. No science behind my opinion but after losing both mother and mother in law to Alzheimer’s, drinking metal seems like the kind of thing I’d rather others try first. I’m for the microbial, just not internally. If you print a handle for the components, think about something VanHelsing would want for werewolf hunting.

Jim

Will gold rods colloidify the water?

mj

A wormhole that raises your eyebrows at the level of pseudoscience and lack of real research.

Big Clive

I'm covering it and other quack stuff fairly. I'm not willing to write it off unless it's complete bullshit. There may actually be some applications where the use of the liquid is functional. Sadly, they're swamped by quackery.

Big Clive

You might be able to plate things using it as a slow electrolytic plater. There must be faster ways though.

Big Clive

I wasn't aware of that. Does it work?

Big Clive

Unfortunately yes. He thrives on Internet bullshit and actually makes anti-vaxxer and 5G type comments occasionally.

Big Clive

Didn't know about colloidal silver, very interesting stuff. Waiting to see more.

elias

No s- colloidal silver is a wormhole. It can also turn you blue.

Mike Page

I'm kind of surprised Clive gives colloidal silver as much credence as he does here. Colloidal silver does indeed have antimicrobial properties and it's useful for some things -- sterlizing certain types of laundry that can't survive autoclave temperatures, various industrial processes, etc. But all of the "home medical benefits" from washing with the stuff, or consuming it, are absolute bunk. No reputable studies have shown any benefits whatsoever, while there are documented harms that can happen from consumption, as Clive notes. Virtually every "cures X" or "prevents Y" claim you will find anywhere is from someone who is trying to sell you the stuff. Like I said, kind of surprised at the warm-ish reception you gave it, Clive.

Charles

Don't forget, he made Ghost Finders as well :D

John Carr

Interesting, I just received 5 of those boost converters in the post last week, All I need is some silver wire now for a lifetime of good health!... Alternatively, can you place objects in coloidal silver and plate them?

Mike Hanley

my understanding is that colloidal silver can also be used in, umm, plant growing. to make female plants grow pollen sacks.

Elliott Krimchansky

Im going to be honest. I never expected clive to make anything even remotely woo-woo and im a little uncomfortable about it. In future ill probably skip videos like this.

GL_1_Code1_1A

Silver is antimicrobial so it would be a good wound-wash, but I don't think drinking it is a good idea.

Mark Trombley

Looks like a Ralfy type of thing
