I zapped a dutch sausage.

The latest instalment of the fork-o-cutor series.

I won't do too many in case the novelty wears off.

I zapped a dutch sausage.

Ahh, the mini-kielbasa...

Ryan Coleman

β€žIt still came up to a good temperature before it started shooting out sparks.β€œ 😹

The general consensus was that it's low risk due to using AC. DC would be more likely to cause metal migration.

Big Clive

I'm always puzzled by where it states "New Improved Recipe". Which often means that far from adding something, they've actually gone and extracted something. Probably salt?

Andrew Donaldson

Did you ascertain that the chromium etc from the forks was not an edibility issue? (And this looks disturbingly tasty!)

Matt Hessinger

That sounds fantastic.

Michael Thompson

yeah, but im guessing the clipboard people wouldnt be so keen on mass produced freely available fork-o-cutors

You should fork-o-cute a Pumpkin and a Neep towards the end of October. You could go one step further with the halloween traditions by seeing what would happen if someone went bobbin' for apples while a couple of them had the forks shoved in them. Maybe see if any current would flow between the forked apples, through the water and through the apple that you ha just bitten on to... probably none though unless the water was a bit manky and even then you'd probably have be dookin' next to one of the "live" apples to feel any tingle...

Living in the Netherlands for more than five years now, I find it very nice that you tested a Dutch Smoked Pork sausage (here known as "Rookworst"). I like that kind of sausage, especially with a bit of mustard and if I can talk them into giving me a somewhat more crunchy bread (normally they put it into a soft bun). They heat up the sausages in a water bath, so normally at some point eating you might get splashed, so the electro-heating might actually make it easier to enjoy.

Hagen

Looking at that power factor isn’t that a very efficient way of cooking?

Lostngone

If it wasn't for the cost ofthe Hopi it might be worth having a go at home :) Would the energy monitor reviewed in June do the same job?

If you grabbed the forks whilst live an RCD(GFCI) would do nothing to protect you, unless you were barefoot on a grounded surface, you would cook like the sausage until your fingers let out the magic smoke!

The Tinkering Shed

Who wants to learn when there’s yummy sausage goodness πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

The use of forks as electrodes is so terrifying, but I can't stop watching anyway

Try a pickled cucumber as well Clive. Nice yellow lumination effects.

That is so fogging funny!

It's called "rookworst" in Dutch, traditionally eaten in winter as "Boerenkool met worst" with a potato and kale stew.

Erwin Bierhof

Looks like a matterson sausage you can get here in the uk.

Michael Brenkley

I realise the difficulty involved, but bacon is wet as f*ck. That would zap in no time. need some 240V rated croc clips

Now that made me laugh :)

Clive, you should add some pulsing circuit, for more relaxed electrocution, and replace the forks with such clamps like they have in hospitals and clamp on your finger to measure stuff. This would be a product then. Can't wait to see the face of the engineer that has to run CE tests

Peter Stimpel

That's a terrible idea. It should be "Big Clive's Hot Sausage Fun".

Steven Raith

MMMMM black pudding mind you the white pudding not to bad to :)

Mort

Indeed I wondered if it was metal. Hope it isn't

Michael Thompson

Could you A, use a thermocouple to show how the temperature rises. And B, how about filming it with you FLIR camera to show how the heat moves around.

Neil Tonks

What are you resting the sausage on Clive?

Most enjoyable, zapping food never gets boring. It maybe better if you didn't eat the metalised ends though.

Have you considered trying a 'Black Pudding' and / or 'White Pudding' Ring?

Andrew Donaldson

If the novelty starts to wear off... You could use the fork-o-cutor to demonstrate basic electrical theory to the 5G conspiracy theorists. (But it's not wearing off yet.)
