I'm glad I asked! Okay 470 or less. Thanks man

Michael Thompson

The Douglas one was in the supermarket.

Big Clive

Some of those are quite interesting. In the past I've used a small processor with double function inputs/outputs and phase detection with a high value resistor from the mains supply.

Big Clive

It will need to be a lower value resistor of around 470 ohm or less to avoid the red LED dragging the voltage down and dominating the green and blue.

Big Clive

I fully endorse this idea

Michael Thompson

I really like the way the slow color changing LEDs look on that A4 panel! I may possibly have to try that on one of mine, but let me finish the first one first. LOL I wonder if painting the PCB white would help distribute the color reflections? That might be one I use the SMD resistors on the back for too, just to keep the surface more uniform. You think 1 k resistors for the slow color changers in this application?

Michael Thompson

I found 2 Subway sandwich shops on the Isle: Peel and Port Erin. There is one on Google Earth on Market St, Douglas however the Subway web site does not list it being there.

Here is a nice "Compiled Tips 'N Tricks Guide" from Microchip Technology, with some quite interesting and non-obvious stuff: ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/01146B.pdf

any glass that negates the UVC waves right.☢️ Good question as far as exposure goes. These nutters talk about sunlight being sterilization for COVID-19 Boeing rolling out hand held UV wands... i presume they will actually work using UV LEDs https://mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN25H2RM

I think you don't really measure the 'resistance' but instead you calculate it. Usually the higher the frequency the less current a speaker will draw. The 'calculated resistance' will be higher at a higher frequency. The impedance is a calculated average over the whole frequency range. Where the lower frequencies draw more current and therefore result in lowering the overall impedance. An impedance mismatch, speakers impedance lower than the amplifier impedance might result in the amplifier not being able to deliver enough current to drive the speaker. Stressing and wearing out the amplifier circuit. An amplifier performing outside its designed specifications will fail prematurely.

UV light; in Pret in York they have a UV bulb above the ‘cash only’ till. I assume it’s for easy forgery identification But how long would you need to sterilize cash?

You would be using a NTC thermistor, negative temperature coefficient, to limit the inrush current. The maximum current the NTC thermistor can handle should be 7.5 A or more to match your transformer.

Frank

Thanks for that I'm in Glasgow there should be one here somewhere

Simon Kyrollos

Impedance basically is frequency dependant resistance, speakers have a different resistance at different frequencies, the rated impedance is a bit of an average across the frequency range of the speaker

A personal question. Have you ever considered becoming a hairdresser? ;)

Frank

Hello Clive, what is the difference between impedance and resistance? From what I can tell, both are measured in Ohms, but the only place where I've seen "impedance" been used is in speakers. I also recall my grandfather once saying I shouldn't plug speakers with higher impedance than the "source" (for lack of a better word). Is there a reason for these things? Thanks!

How to read a NCT or PCT datasheet. I have an isolation transformer (toroidal, 7.5amp) that trips the mains. In the uk we have 240v. I know that one of these will work (ignoring the time it takes to cool down for the moment) as I put one in the circuit, but I never really understood how to read the datasheet to get the best one for the job.

Simon York

I found https://www.thingiverse.com

Frank

I forgot the name, but there is an online platforms where people share their 3D printer, or small print shops. You can check a map to see which one is close to you.

Frank

Clive is too nice to do that ;)

Frank

It is the lack of current that limits the number of applications.

Frank

Unless you're local to Clive, shipping would be prohibitive!

N H

Hi Clive I don't have a 3D printer but I was looking to make a couple of parts for my metal detector if I sent you the files could you print them for me I don't mind paying you for them

Simon Kyrollos

Oh hey, I finished installing 1k resistors on my A4 Chaos Panel and have an initial coat of "cast aluminum" over the front after de-fluxing and washing and drying. (I'm building this at work over lunch hours) Monday will be a finish coat and starting Tuesday the LEDs start getting installed. If I can find a suitable frame then my only lingering concern will be addressed!

Michael Thompson

I don't know if I will be able to check in this week, but I will attempt some preemptive love in the form of preemptive love to everyone in advance even! Much love all

Question: Is your brother upset that you have more YouTube subscribers then he does. Do you ever feel it necessary to point that out to him? I’m sure this has been asked before...

Would the use of the energy monitor reviewed in June work as a substitute for the HOPIi to indicate when food is cooked with 'the forks'? Perhaps a demo with the monitor plugged into the HOPI to compare?

We test cheap Chinese electronics so you don’t die☢️👍 Amazon recently lost a liability case in USA, replacement should come fast from the seller, or Amazon 😍😂

Cerity

Not a question but a scary story from work. I ordered an LED light from Amazon and after watching Clive's videos I decided to check the ground connection, it wasn't connected. I put a terminal on it and connected it to a screw in the fixture. I plugged it in and I lost one strip of LEDs. I looked at the now dead strip and saw a screw touching one of the pads of an LED. Better I find it than whoever was going to use the machine I'd planned to install it in.

Hi Clive, what is the worst job in entertainment you have ever done, and what sort of practical jokes go on at the Tattoo 😂

Hey Clive, I have some old CCTV Cameras, I think they are Pre 2000, One is colour and the other is Black and White. Would you like them to tear down for a side by side comparison

Is it possible to power anything useful from the voltage in a telephone socket?

Have you had grape-flavored American sweets? Do you like them? What sweets flavors are common in the UK?

m. kai duffey

I have put my order in for some Stark and Dormy, seeing as the weather is like that here at the moment!

Clive is quite nocturnal, making his awake hours mimic the early Aussies, or late afternoon workers in USA

obviously LED candle flame... or just FIRE :) I ordered this because of you ... -> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rechargeable-LED-Flame-Night-Light-USB-Effect-Magnetic-Hanging-Sensor-Table-Lamp/254571228694?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=554291158271&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Is hating the screech of an Edison screw bulb a fair enough reason to say bayonet?

Matt Tester

He's a lumberjack and he's OK, he works all night and he... works all day? Actually does Clive ever sleep?

Matt Tester

Lamp sockets: UK bayonet or, rest of the sane world, Edison screw. Where do you stand?

AlfaGuy

Tartan red? Thought you forgot about tomorrow 😂😂 thanks BC for the extra foodie content this week.❤️
