Not an exciting unit, but neat minimalist circuitry

This video is not as good as the next two which are currently uploading.  If anything I thought the circuitry and current capability was a bit of an anticlimax.

The thumbnail text generator doesn't appear to do lower case, so it's not actually a 500 Mega Amp charger.  That would have been MUCH more exciting.

It would be interesting to see how clean or dirty the inputs and output are with a scope, also does it put out enough RF to cause issues if a radio is nearby or powered from the same supply ? The 12 to 5 adaptor supplied with my Tomtom sat nav works perfectly, cheap ones wipe out the radio :(

I Would be Interested what those super-mini Units Look Like inside, given that they are rated 4,8A https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07MK2TZJ3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_JD5523HW312R7H5AXG2X?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

so a heatsink shaped like a tiny little frying-pan - for flying up quail's eggs

Ha ha!!! snap! I was scrolling down to ask that very question - what is the input current at 12V when it is delivering 500mA at 5V..

Gordo

I would be interested to see how efficient things like this are at converting the voltage. I.e. how much power goes in, and how much power goes out.

Paul Slootman

I tired filming something in slo mo and the camera setting went down to 720P. I didn't realise it had happened until later.

Big Clive

at the risk of repeating a question from somewhere else, is this a new camera Clive, last few videos have been 720p, cheers.

heh they missed a marketing operturnity - "but you can also cook a egg on the chip"

"up to expectations"? .. surely the aspiration for this kind of thing is down to them!! Selling these crappy half amp things just feels like ripping off unsuspecting folks now.. On a similar note, I despair at the mark(et)ing of QC/PD etc which requires people to have to know far too much about the differences between products which superficially appear the same. Very similar, also, the antics of Apple et al creating a lot of confusion about USB, Displayport, Lightning, and so on. Once upon a time you could tell well enough what a port did and didn't do by looking at it.

David Reader

they're quite exciting, when they fail and send supply voltage through the usb port !

I have had many of these over the years so good some just went on fire in the car . nowadays i tend to stick good quality it costs a bit more but worth it when there is no smoke......lol..thanks for another great video clive

How quickly we forget that the original specs (up to 2.0?) only called for 500 mA. So a perfectly acceptable power source. In 2005.

Peter Laws

Decorative LED driver perhaps? OOOH Automotive filter air fan box? Plenty of current headroom too!

Michael Thompson

500 Mega Amps should be just enough for efficient instant LiPo cell disposal with just a hint of exotic ithium spice with an afternote of fragrant summer ozone.

Anita Davis

A heatsink and a high power 12V fan with 3D printed adaptor.

Big Clive

I reckon things will gradually return to normal for you.

Big Clive

I don't get my fix of taking random stuff at the moment. :( I hope that returns again. I miss working with industrial electronics. Thanks Clive! MUCH appreciated!

Michael Thompson

I would say get a heat sink and some freeze spray and see if you can get more Current out of it.

Lostngone

well behaved devices should be able to take the direct connection of the 2 data lines as an indicator of the maximum output of the charger and not try and pull more than 500ma, which should allow some trickle charging of high speed devices - which could be enough to get home with a working phone, or that sort of thing
