X-raying one of the g40 lamps

I wanted to see how they had constructed the AC LED filaments in the small festoon lights.

The LED array is quite unusual.

Interesting.. You should partake of hot beverages at your local candelabra-base fairy-light equipped coffee shop and, on each visit, while no-one is watching, pilfer one of the dead bulbs from their lighting set so you can take it home and determine the failure mode for us lot. Now obviously stealing's wrong, so to avoid accruing bad karma, you could replace every lamp you remove with a working one from your own set. This has the amusing benefit that you'll end up with the reputation of being some sort of light faerie whose presence can heal faulty light-bulbs

Clive and AvE is a crossover I'd love to see. My two favorite technical channels.

For cave men? I ALMOST finished my cup of tea but it was too late. Out the nose. Not as bad as beer or soda pop. So, G40 is the base? In the US we call these "candelabra base" not my idea, it's on the box.

I looked at this, my first thought was, looks like something that should be behind glass, like a fire tool? Then it hit me, X-ray

When I try to X-Ray things with a Newtonian motion accelerator it seldom goes as well as that.

Even with the 51k resistor I'm surprised those little filaments can handle the reverse voltage. Does that mean I could make a110v filament halfwave light with just a diode and a 51k resistor?

Speaking of which, what ever happened to the vice of knowledge?

I'm a bit jealous of Mikes X-ray at mikeselectricstuff

Big Clive

I have wondered before whether a small mailroom x-ray scanner could be a thing for you. Anything affordable would not have helped in this situation tho.

AvE sent a number out to other YouTube celebrities as a gift.

If you are looking for a Louis Rossmann-style upgrade. Check out these:- https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32918588499.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.6aba5cc3f9dCvF EAKINS 7-45X Articulating Arm Pillar Stand Stereo Zoom Trinocular Microscope 0.5X/1X/2X Objective Lens 144LED Mcroscopio Light AliExpress Huaxin Tool Store I bought one as a lockdown purchase to do some SMT stuff. Really excellent quality at a crazy price. The articulated arm is really stable and allows you to mount the plate under your bench out of the way. Should have bought one ages ago. Has a camera port on the top, but haven't used it.

When I first saw the title I thought you may have used a conventional x-ray facility. But all that radiation is dangerous, the Big Clive x-ray method is much safer, providing you take precautions for flying glass and finger strikes!

Tell us more about the hammer and how you got yours. I’ve watched the video about making it but it doesn’t tell you how to get one.

Gadgetman

Yes exactly what I want at the wee hours (for regular people) with my coffee. Great stuff as always, Clive you are a resource and you are valued and loved.

😂 Love too You & Yours 'Big Clive' Awesome!! 😀

Very interesting design. Ive been tooling around with LEDs as illuminated rectifiers a bit lately. I need a low (1hz) frequency AC source...
