Solar light repair

Fixing Ralfy's (my brother) solar garden lights.

I thought it was going to be something simpler.

Solar light repair

Comments

Ralfy's solar lights were slightly broken so he gave them to his brother to break properly. :-)

Jon Knight

Are the LiFe batteries also 3.7 V or are they lower nominal

Cerity

You are still funny together. Yeah do be honest that Solar cell was for shit it looked too cheap

Michael Thompson

The circuitry used in these is only suited to NiMh cells. But you do get LiFePO4 based lights.

Big Clive

Ralfy is defiantly non-technical.

Well, I'm not alone doing this!! I've repaired three "Garden Lights" and one has a battery backordered in the last week. If anyone has one of those "water faucets" with LEDs representing water, the most common failure point is right where the solar assembly pivots at it's mounting point. When you pull the cable out, remember to leave a piece of string in its place, so you can pull the new cable through.

I was going to do this with my allotment lights, but then I found some in the bins near me when I took the rubbish out last night, they were lit, brightly, in the bins. So out they came.

Thanks for another nice video! Would love to see a follow-up on the circuit used by these and thoughts on whether using LiPo would give better results and/or other improvements if one didn't mind spending a few more bucks to make it last longer..

Jonas

Was that a reference to "3rd Rock from the Sun" - though Sally is missing :-)

Zeedijk Mike

Just reminded me. Half the solar lights in the garden have given up the ghost. Time for the soldering iron, new batteries, short out the switches and a blast of conformal coating when (if) I get them fixed.

Malcolm J Bannister

He should do the stuff you do to make them last longer...or be nicer to you to get them for you, but then it wouldn't be our sweet Ralfy would it? He's one of those smack you with a branch brothers...

Michael Thompson

Probably the worst thing I ever did was to repair one set of solar lights for my mother in law. Every year now, without fail, every Tom, Dick and Harry brings round their dead and dying garden lights asking me to have a look.

Neil Tonks

Wonder how many of the "No shipping to the Isle of Mann" are because the Chinese sellers are afraid you'll make a video...
