Bonsai Gerber zip files.

A few people have asked about the files for the mini LED bonsai tree project.  I've finally found the zip file and uploaded it to my site.  There's no link there yet, but you can find the files here:-

And the original build video here:-

At that time I sent quite a lot of complete limited edition kits to random channel supporters.

If you get some of these PCBs made then you'll need to find some matching solid core wire and sockets for the end if you want pluggable LEDs.

Comments

They're great. I've had one lit continuously since building it.

Big Clive

*looks shifty* I made a bootleg version of the PCB a few months ago.

Your English is good 👍😁 and i like alternative knowledge or ‘language’ like mathematics, music, schematics 🧲🎁😈 you can share the information without direct knowledge of the recipients spoken language

(electronics) world is like today.

At first: thank you for these files!! I ordered some boards. 45 years ago I made them myself. Lay-out on milar with 0,1 inch raster, with pads for IC-chips, tape and pads for the copper pads, etc. Very expensive light sensitive PCB boards, a light bulb and a timer, etc, etc. Now I can order them for a few Euro. online (wich I dit :)). Coarse boards I made with a waterproof Edding sharpy and ferro chloride container. Those where the days. Did this in my year as an apprentice by the National Post and by the local waterworks in my province. (My English is bad, isn't it?). After that I switched to mathematics and physics and became a teacher. But now, after a really very fullfilled life with so many dedicated students (no points for management, mind you!!), I'm back at my soldering iron. And it is pure fun! This said, it is a whole new world: smd's, Ardunino's, transformerless powersupplies, microprocessors at the price of a lollypop, components for a penny. For me it's like entering disneyland for a long time. And thats why I like your channel so much. It feels like an oncle who tells how the

I’ve had good luck with hollow pin desoldering tools, sometimes called isolation pins. First removing what you can with a solder sucker or wick then heat the pin, slide the tube over it and twist it when it cools off.

Hi, I used a halogen car headlamp bulb, worked really well. Just fashion a holder for it ( an eye shield is handy) and a good 12v power supply. Hold it over all the pins, and after about a minute, the chip should just lift away. Learnt this from Naomi 'sexy cyborg' Wu via YouTube

That video about the tree has a comment on how it's harder to unsolder from a 2-sided board. That reminds me of something I never solved: how does one desolder a multi-pin through component? Few years ago I was soldering a socket for an arduino nano on an experiment pcb (the kind with an array of tiny holes, 2 sided); Half way through I realized I got the placement wrong. I could never unsolder the whole thing, ended up having to trash it all. Luckily I had started by the socket and a few terminals only.

Raphaël

I’m sure you could design some knife scales, for protection/ grip 🧲🙈🦾

Cerity

I really should add it to that page. I put the file up quite late.

Big Clive

Ah, making HTML pages can take a little bit.

NightshadeLenar

And here I was thinking this was a test of some zip-cut filing tools made by the knife manufacturer Gerber, named "Bonsai files" XD:rofl:

horrovac

Hard to believe that was 3 years ago😭🎊👌 Clive with always the coolest tech examples ❤️❤️😈

Cerity

Too bad I already made my own bootleg ones. Oh well, next batch I’ll get some official ones.

Elliott Krimchansky

I still have one plugged in to the telly.
