Quiet Patreon stream on Thursday

A little extra stream that will let me answer some of the many technical questions you asked.

https://youtu.be/7SXioZMOPlQ

How does this timing work out for you guys?  Given the spread of time around the planet there must be a sweet spot where most of you can enjoy a stream at a realistic time.

Quiet Patreon stream on Thursday

Comments

It's in the video description on the most recent live stream. The one with a picture of fairy lights.

Big Clive

I know I listened to this one late and clearly I didn't listen well enough. Where are we to find the updated openscad file for the new, improved foamy whoofler? I couldn't find it in the comments here or on YouTube.

Charles

👍 cool. Vapor proof meaning its got holes for drainage❓BC got the stuff and expertise 🦾

Cerity

That was really fun! I get way less chatty once my initial hellos and stuff are done, but I'm glad I thought of a moderately decent question about the food. I have a solar lamp in the works for our garden that will use your super simple transistor and cell phone battery method. The big difference is that I'm building it all inside of a pleasingly odd-shaped trashed vapor-proof lighting fixture that I bagged a couple of at work. If I do everything right it should simply work for a very long time, even as it suffers the external effects of being fully exposed outdoors.

Michael Thompson

Damn, missed it again :(

Thanks fir a great stream 🎊 you’re goot people BC ❤️

Cerity

My question has been posted elsewhere but I don't think it featured in any stream, just in case here it is again... Having moved from the UK to Norway last year, I brought with me a few appliances with UK plugs with the intention of re-wiring them when I got here. However, I was put off when I realised that European plugs are not polarised. Why is it that it is important in the UK for live/neutral to be the right way round but in Europe this doesn't seem to matter? Is it safe to re-wire a UK appliance in the way I planned, even though the polarity will often be reversed due to the design of the plugs and sockets?

Stephen Pettitt

Your opinion of helper devices like Alexa. I feel that since they know everything about me anyway, might as well take advantage of it. And we need a current update on Pip. Go find Pip.

Scrufdog

If you can grow a Mercury 👍😁🎁🦾

Cerity

Yes you can.

Big Clive

Might I request a toast to beards tomorrow? Actual beards, not Katy Holmes. I've only had mine for a year but it has to go. I started it so I wouldn't have to shave around stitches in my neck. My wife didn't care for it at first but likes it now. Unfortunately I have a lymph node on my neck that is turning into the fat bastards of lymph nodes so it's biopsy time. I'm going to play with the mustache for a few days. I haven't decided whether to go Freddie Mercury or straight to a Hitler.

Jim

It's not obligatory, but it may set the atmosphere. Pink gin works.

Big Clive

Glad to hear public transit is still running in your area. BC gonna have a great stream 🦾😁

Cerity

That's 8am in eastern Australia. Good for me

Jim Hooke

How about a light controller using an arduino, designed and programed by the community, it would have a core to to which other features could be added, and based on the 100 X 100 JLCPCB 2$ size ? For example - Triac outputs could be 4 channels on a 33.3 X 100 board paneled to give 3 per 100 X 100, opto isolaters with the option of in sockets, isolated tab triacs with the option of solder direct or screw terminal mount for ease of replacement. You would just be an advisor, therefore taking up the minimum of your time :)

A midnight finish is not good for me as I have work at 7:30am and often have to collect the wife from the station at 23:30 :( Better that Sat though as I often have to collect her from work due to canceled train / no train, and miss at least half of the stream :(

BTW I hope to make a 170 volt nixie tube speedo for my car. Or I might use dekatrons tho they need more like 400 volts.0 to 60 in 1 nanosecond...

Ymir the Frost Giant

Just to say thanks for trying out Thursdays - being really selfish, it suits me to a T - I have weds thus and fris off work but work weekends. I watched the first hour of your Sat Live 2 wks ago but it turned into 2... and I had to clock on a 4am Sun morning!

Ymir the Frost Giant

Is it obligatory to bring something pink along? 🎀

Phil in the kitchen

Can we submit questions here in advance?

Stephen Pettitt

Being an hour ahead of the UK, and being a wimpy early-bird, the timing could not be worse for me. However, I am more than happy to watch/listen to these streams on "catch up TV" the following day!

Stephen Pettitt

Time is great. The only places that are in the middle of the night are India and all around there. UK is early night, America is early afternoon, Australia is early morning.

evilution

I really enjoy the Patreon streams, so making time is not an issue.

Steve Askey

Well I'm officially furloughed 1 day a week from the start of Dec and Friday is my day this week so I'm good!

Paul Hill

It is a little late but it's all a bout priorities. Pink calculators > sleep.

21:05 is a good time - Going to bang in a calendar reminder as YT reminder service doesn't seem to work that well, for me anyway !!

Robert

If the beard is getting in the way it gets tucked inside between T-shirt and sweatshirt. I'm not a fan of braiding.

Big Clive

Thanks Mr Clive. Time works for me.

Simon Hopkins

Being a fellow beardy whippet, I would like to know if you have considered braiding your beard Mr. Clive. For me it helps keep the sawdust out. Not having opposable thumbs is the biggest problem though; dew claws just don't cut it.

Whippet Gas

Yay! One of these lands on a "work from home" day!

Ryan Coleman

Thank you - excellent, a one man Brains Trust!

Mr B Shepherd

My son can't get over the fact that B.C. answers questions. "He doesn't have to answer questions." He says.

Andrew Donaldson

I agree, 22:00 for mainland Europe (or "Europe" as it soon will be known as :-) ) is a bit late for me, I definitely need my beauty sleep, so I can join for at most one hour

Paul Slootman

Works out fine for me, starts at three PM local

Kevin Hardisty

You’re too good BC 👍😂❤️

Cerity

At 22:00 it's a bit late here in the centre of the world. When not working from home I like to start convincing myself to go to bed at precisely that time. If it's Thursday I can manage, it's not like I get much of anything done on Friday :)

horrovac

I'm in the UK, just about any time is good for me.

Namirred

I'm singing with my band Thursday night. The time is good I've listened in the car coming home from work in the past. EDIT Well that's been cancelled. I'll check in from work and listen on the way home.

Michael Thompson

Time is good for me.

Frank

This seems like a good time for me Ta

The Nitroglycerin Child

Thursday at 4PM eastern works for me, as far as I can tell.
