Dusk sensor with very nice case

This dusk sensor came from a prominent UK supplier, which is odd, since it's very "eBay".   But it's got a really nice case.  It's only after I'd made the video that I realised that the case alone is worth buying it for.

I swear, at first I thought it said "Duck Sensor..."

Is the only thing this is missing a sleeve over those wires that extends from inside their enclosure all the way to the enclosure of the light. Seems like a DIY person could add that. Or am I missing something and it is a bigger issue than that.

I wonder if CPC are really aware of the problems? I promise not to email them, I'll let you do it this time I promise.

You must be going quackers

CPC have become very 'retaily' in the last few years, I still use then but tend tk look at RS first when looking for serious components.

If you wanted to mount some low voltage sensors outside, this could make a useful rain and splashproof case if you gutted the existing PCB out. I'd never use one of these as a dusk sensor. I was trying not so say "What the f*ck are CPC thinking of selling sh*t like this." The last time I found one of their shadier products I released the video on Patreon and got an awkward phone call from the director of CPC asking me not to release the video, and that he was initiating a product recall on it. (They usually test their own products, but not those supplied by other compliant suppliers, who in that case had supplied a very non compliant product.)

Yeah, the circuit is like beginners circuits from the 70's.

Big Clive

I read that as Duck Sensor first time around.

Whippet Gas

Hmm as you say fine mounted on a case etc but a lot will end up just attached to walls with various “junctions “ dangling in the air. Super simple circuit, (yep SMD, mains and damp not ideal) but do think I’d rather pay a bit more for the ‘proper’ kit.

RDM

What makes the case worthwhile? There is no way those single cores are in any way compliant, after a couple of years the UV will have cooked the PVC brittle and you will have exposed cores and verdigris.

The Tinkering Shed

That is really a throwback wow

I wonder if this was originally a component meant for internal installation within some other product, hence its low price, then the bracket and wall-mounting instructions were an afterthought to package it as a stand-alone for amateur installation. The instructions merely stating that the installation must comply with regs is just a get-out-clause. It assumes the reader won't know what those regs are.

Hmmmm......awfully big orifice. 😂

In the thumbnail pic i feel it looks slightly like a high powered orifice warmer, i cant be the only one 😂
